Dabber, I know I recall some folks having Mac issues with Snow Leopard? I do think that they did eventually figure out how to work around it. But don't take my word - I used my PC for the M9.

You could PM Rich Renken, from Line 6, he might be able to help you out - he stops in from time to time.

Dabber, if it's easy for you, you might just want to borrow someone's Win 7 laptop (or go use their desktop).
It doesn't take but a few minutes, and you can do it anywhere you have your pedal.

I would check out the following thread - I know it's a bit long, but there was talk about issues with using a mac. I don't know how involved it got, but I use PC, so I glazed over most of the mac talk. Worth a scan though.

But I would work out the issues with the mac. Depending on how involved you want to get with the M9/13, you can backup/store scenes/folders on your computer - if you borrow somebody else's laptop, then you won't be able to do that.

But, if he was in a hurry, and couldn't get the Mac download issue fixed, I was giving him an alternative. He could do what you brought up after he resolved the download issue. The download and the backup being separate issues/tasks.

How important are the firewire updates for bass?

I dont know whether to get an M9 or an M13. I like synthy sounds and distorsions from in the worst cases I would get in different pedals. Delays, compressors and reverbs is thing i like the most too but i've heard that is not a problem on the M9/13. Any suggestions?

If it's any consolation, I wrestled with that decision, too. I ended up buy a very slightly, still under warranty, M13. It was about the same price as the M9's go for on eBay. I just didn't want any regrets or question in my mind. I like the size of the M9, but I like the one-buttom tuner and the individual displays on the M13 enough to go with the M13.

After lugging around a pedalboard and case, the M13 doesn't seem that bulky. I guess if you weren't using a pedalboard already, you might think it is. It's 15"x12" and weighs 10 lbs.

well here is a breakdown of the fixes.
2.01 for M9 adds-
* Bass Octaver model added to the DIST FX group
* Relative Mode for smooth knob tweaks (parameters don’t jump to the physical knob position - they adjust smoothly)
* Expanded Scenes memory: 4 folders of 6 Scenes each (total of 24 Scenes); these are also accessible via MIDI
* Control the Looper via MIDI without the M9 going into Looper Mode
* Heel/Toe Pixel Display: indicates expression pedal heel and toe values
* Sync to MIDI beat clock
* Re-syncing LFOs for Mod and Filter FX (simply hit the Tap switch to re-sync)
* MIDI CC #69 added for Tuner Enter/Exit
* MIDI CC #23/24 added for Bypass All
* Clearer graphical entry/exit display for Looper Mode

For M13
2.01 just does - Fixes a Relative Mode 4>3>2>1 routing issue.

2.0 adds
* Over 20 new FX Models, including Smart Harmony, Pitch Glide, 6 Mod FX, Bass Octaver, 5 EQs and 8 Wah Models
* Relative Mode for smooth knob tweaks (parameters don’t jump to the physical knob position - they adjust smoothly)
* Expanded Scenes memory: 4 folders of 12 Scenes each (total of 48 Scenes); these are also accessible via MIDI
* Copy Effect from one Scene to another Scene
* Control the Looper via MIDI without the M13 going into Looper Mode
* Redo command added to the Looper (Undo switch is now Undo/Redo)
* Dim OFF for inactive FX LEDs (set it so only active LEDs are lit)
* Heel/Toe Pixel Display: indicates expression pedal heel and toe values
* Sync to MIDI beat clock
* Re-syncing LFOs for Mod and Filter FX (simply hit the Tap switch to re-sync)
* Also includes all the features included in the v1.07 update

1.07 adds
* A new Tempo BPM setting has been added to the Setup menus. This setting is saved per Scene.
* The Distortion/Comp model defaults have been releveled for a more consistent volume experience when auditioning models.
* FX OFF has been added as an FX Loop parameter in the Setup menus. This setting is saved per Scene.
* Also in the Setup menus, all of the following settings are Scene-specific: Gate/FX Loop/True-DSP Bypass/Tempo/Expression Pedals.
* The Octo 'crackles' issue has been fixed.
* Tap Tempo has been tweaked to average three taps as per DL4 (when more than 2 taps are tapped).
* FX are no longer bypassed after entering/exiting Tuner mode.
* True Bypass feedback issue has been fixed: switching FX off in True Bypass mode clears any regenerating Delays or Reverbs.
* Looper feature: hitting Reverse from Record/Overdub immediately stops recording and begins reverse playback of the loop.

OK guys. I got my pedal out and plugged it in, and that's as far as I got. I have practice tomorrow night, and I have a bunch of new stuff we're working on, so I won't be able to mess with it much 'til Friday.

But I got a couple of questions that I can come back and reference later. The settings the previous owner had on it are still there, so I need to get it back to square one, like it was new. Got a quick shortcut for that?

He did already have all the updates installed, so that is cool.

Last question: When you got yours what were the very first few things you did (or steps you took)? I want to get it usable onstage by the 13th. I know I won't fully have a grasp on it, but I do want a few effects working.

I'm afraid of using the owners manual, so I won't ask for step by step instructions, but any shortcuts will be appreciated.

For me, and I am still in this mode, basically selecting effects, and trying them out one by one, and playing with the settings to find setting that I like.

Here is the reset commands.
Factory Reset
There may be times when you’d like to reset your M13 to its Factory settings. You may want to recall a particular Factory Scene, for example. To do a Factory Reset, first back up any Scenes you’d like to keep (see MIDI Backup on page 2•5), then follow these steps:
• Turn the Model Select Knob under LCD 4 until “Rst Fact?” is displayed.
• Press down on the Model Select Knob - “Reset To Factory?” will be displayed.
• To initiate the Factory Reset, press down on the Model Select Knob again.
• All Factory defaults will be reset, including Scene Presets and Global settings.

I got to thinking about this, and since my M13 was a blem model with no damage that I have been able to find, and the fact that mine was already at 2.x (I need to check the exact version), I think I will set mine back to factory defaults also so that I can start fresh, since it was high probability a guitarist that had it before, the setting are not going to be favorable to a Bass player.

I read the manual, and thought I was doing something wrong or leaving a step out, because..... No matter what I do, I can not get the ?RstFact to display. Just in case the previous owner had changed the order, I tried it on Effect 1, also. Then I wrote to him, and he did not mention resetting the eff order. and gave me the same instruction as in the manual.

I've turned every Model Select knob 360 degrees (more than once), in every different type of effect, but the ?RstFact NEVER shows up. I tried Setup mode, and made sure the Scene(s) were not on, or the Looper, etc. I even tried, A, B, C within each effect "board", to no avail.

What am I missing? :confused:

OOPS, Gus. I replied to you awhile ago, but I think I hit the preview, instead of the submit button. Sorry, in a hurry.

On the M13 advanced guide, which I have on this and my studio computer, it doesn't mention you have to hold down the setup button before going into that mode. It may mention it somewhere else in the manual, but not where the instructions to reset are. Haven't read the whole thing yet (obviously).

I pressed the setup button and held it until the display said "MIDI (dump all etc)". Turned it one more notch, and it said "Scene (dump all, etc)", then once more to get to "?RstFact" That did it, after confirming and pressing knob again.

The advanced manual kinda forgot to mention that whole "hold down setup button" thingy. It just says "back up scenes" then turn the knob to ?RstFact (paraphrased).

Sorry 'bout previous response, or lack of it. She's all reset now, and all updated to 2.01.

Thanks. I'm sure we'll be talking a lot more about this baby. I've got practice tonight, and I'm working on new lyrics and phrasing, so I won't have time to fool around with it anymore 'til tomorrow. Can't wait. I want to have it stage ready by next weekend.
