Line 6 Relay G-50 Review/Question

I followed David E's link over to guitar-cable.com and got some of the best customer service I've ever experienced. These guys didn't have the link up to the cables for the G50 and G90 pack up yet but put it up as soon as I emailed them about it. Here's the link. Invalid Link Removed I'll post again when the cable arrives and I can try the thing out.

Have you done any gigs with the lower-voltage rechargeables? I got tired of making Walgreen's richer to the tune of 1 alkaline 9V every gig, so I have a new G30 on the way...

Of course, I called BS on that.

Our guitarist has one of these so I got to borrow it. I measured
a 4 millisecond delay.

For hoots, I measured a 15′ cable. It was too small to measure. I
estimate it would be about 15 nanoseconds. The cable is about
250,000 times faster than the Line 6 Relay G50.

Regardless, a 4 mS delay is trivial. You won’t notice it.

Picture below shows the G50 input and output. The upper signal in
yellow is the input. The lower signal in blue is the output. Note that
the output does not achieve the same peak as the input until
four horizontal graduations later. Each graduation is 1 mS.

could they have meant that the latency was less than standing at the end of that cable's reach? (i.e., being 15 feet away from the source, hearing it through the air?)

edit: read the article, and yeah, there's NFW. either the mayer pedal in question was creating latency in one output, or he accidentally got the examples reversed.

i just got a g30 -- got a gig next saturday - and we'll see, but i dig the 1/4 to 1/4 option and double A's as opposed to a 9 volt like on my other Line 6. I tested it out in my basement - went all the way out to my front lawn and it was still going strong... no issues with batteries fitting, door, etc... Using it at a gig will be the test...

I haven't played any gigs with my G30 yet, but I've had 2 band rehearsals, each 3+ hours, plus at least a couple of hours of practice on my own and the same set of AA NiMH rechargeables is still working.

Thanks for the link to the cables. I'm going to check them out. I've been gigging with my G50 for a while now and freaking love it. Haven't had any issues with the batteries. The AA's I'm using are lasting a good while.

I got the brand new G30 last week. I, like some others, am having issues getting the darned battery door closed after installing batteries. I will post an update soon...

Mine is a little hard to close. But once closed, it feels like it's not going to pop open!

I finally had to change out my first set of rechargeable NiMH batteries last night. I didn't track them very scientifically, but I'm sure I got at least 8 hours out of them in my G30.

How long did the low battery indicator come on before you actually switched them? Was it a gradual indicated degradation, or did it suddenly switch from showing good to the red indicator?

It just switched, I think. But I think it was still working. All I know is that it was working last time I used it, then the next time I turned it on, the red light was on, so I changed the batteries.

I, too just got my "B" stock G30 from American Musical for $199 shipped. It was packaged horribly with a larger box, one strip of tape and next to no packing material. The strip of tape had come loose and you could easily stick your hand into the box without removing the tape.

That said, it sounds great so far at home. Gig this Saturday night. Will try and remember to report back.

I've been using the G30 since the weekend it came out. This thing sounds just as good or perhaps better than the ew g2 system it replace. I had a buddy of mine make me a cable using mogami gold and neutrik right angle ends. I can do about 6 one hour long sets with a fresh set of rayovacs and still have enough juice for my xbox controllers.

Hey guys, I found this forum searching Relay G50 drop outs. I bought the Relay G50 1 month ago and love the tone, no change whatsoever. I'm a singing guitarist. No drop outs at home. However, just did a large gig 7,000 people in Orlando and I had cut offs every once in a while, for 1/4-1/2 second. We tried all the different channels. The stage had lots of monitors, light effect, etc, and I even had the receiver separated only 10' from me. It didn't matter if I walked 40' away or was next to it, the occasional drop outs occured. Our drummer had a psm200 IEM receiver on but no transmitter anywhere, I read somewhere else that that could have possibly been a problem, but I wouldn't think it should. I love the clarity of the unit, and I don't want to go back to my old UHF units, but the drop outs were too much. Again, only at the gig with that equipment, I haven't used it for other gigs. Any thoughts? I appreciate any help.

I had this problem and realized it was the stock cable. If you're using that, try a different cable.

I got this one, 1.5 feet, and it's perfect:
