List your "never-sell" axes!

My 64 Jazz is a keeper. Not my first "real" bass, but the one I learned how to actually play on. Lots of gigs with it back in the day.

The only Bass that was ever on my never sell list was the 1957 Precision Bass I got in 1967. I was the second owner and put every mark on it with the exception of one. It was naturally "Road Worn". Alas I had to sell it to keep my house from going into foreclosure a couple of years ago. After the house sold I had enough money to buy another just like it but it just wouldn't be the same. :bawl:

never say never !

This Alembic opportunity came to me years ago. It was an employee bass and has no sr#. Extra care was put into this one... Amazing burl bubinga top and unusual purple heart neck with maple lams. I could never afford to commission a custom Alembic, but if I could, it would be something like this.

2007 Fender Jazz Deluxe 5er - This was given to me by a friend that is a pretty famous touring bassist and endorsed by Fender. It is an amazing bass and made me sell a Sadowsky Metro 5er as this sounded better.

What does fender call that finish?

I'm looking for a nice classic 5'er... and this may be one of the nicest one's I've seen in a while. :)

Great looking bass!!

I guess all of my basses fall into the "never sell" catagory. I've only sold one bass in my life and I've regretted it every day since. I still search for it, but that's another story.

I guess if I ever fell on hard times and HAD to sell my basses, this one would still not be for sale. Hell, even if I lost both of my hands in some crazy accident, I still wouldn't sell it!

1987 Rickenbacker fireglow 4003. It's my baby. I bought it 12 or so years ago. Geddy and his Ric were the reason I picked up a bass when I was 13. It was my dream to own one and I had to put it on lay away. $750 was a fortune for me when I was a 21 year old.

Here it is.

My first bass, my MIM Fender jazz bass, in midnight wine. It's not the most fantastic bass made, but it fits my hands like a glove, and I've had it since I was sixteen. I've added a black pickguard, a Badass II bridge and Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickups. (one of my guitar playing friends calls it "the bass equivalent of Natalie Portman in panties). It's my go-to in any situation.

I'll never say never with any bass, as much as I love some of mine, especially my Warwick, if it comes down to having to sell it to pay rent/bail a loved one out of a situation/feed myself, theres not a single tool I wouldn't sell.

I agree with this 100%. If my family was in need I would sell anything that I could to make sure that they got through it. I have had to do it before, and I will do it again without thinking twice. I took the lighthearted approach to answering the op's question on my previous response.

This one has been collecting dust lately as it really doesn't fit any of my recent projects. I've gone back and forth on to liquidate it or not and can't seem to do it. Most likely it's with me for life.

I never say will never sell...whenever I say that I end up selling it! So here are a few that I probably will hang on to!

My metallic teal green USA Lakland Duck Dunn, both '66 P Basses (sea foam not pictured), '62 Jazz RI, Bassstar P&J Config and my two Rics. I do not have individual photos of each bass so here is a family shot

There are only two that I'd consider "unsellable":

A 1971 Fender Precision that was played by Jaco Pastorius; when I had a lesson with him, I brought it with me and he played it briefly to assess it. He advised me to add a Jazz Bass bridge pickup (which I did as soon as I got home).

A 1981 G&L L2000E which was "born" on the exact 10th anniversary of my father's death (sounds morbid, but it's just that the date has meaning); also, I like to think that Leo Fender personally sneezed on it, or something. ;)
