OK, I'll play.
First up, bought new in 1988, and possibly the single best bass tone I've ever gotten, my Steinberger XL-2:

If it had wider spacing at the bridge it would be my #1. Every time I play it I'm blown away by the tone and it sits perfectly in the mix. The band loves it. But the narrow spacing means it's not my #1.

I recently sold my Steinberger. (For whatever reason I just never quite "bonded" with it.) Was probably a bonehead move, though. That small body size can be very handy - especially for flying. And when I pull up a recording I did with it, I now realize that tone was really something else!
