My freinds dad used to have one of those anf I thought it as awesome. If it is still around after the holidays i might try to figure something out financialy...and how to get it from Ohio

Brain fart on my part. I even have a 8x10 photo of him playing a Bean in my music room.Bill Wyman actually played the Travis Bean that the Kramer was modeled after.
I played both back in the day, and the Bean clearly was a better bass. But the Kramers are not without their charm.

They dont have truss rods. I owned one and it was solid as hell.
Ive got an XKB-10 V-model in pieces from way back when I got insane and decided I hated the way it looked in a funky reddish-purplish color and sanded it down to redo it. Well, that never happened and it's travelled around in pieces in it's case with me for years and now it's sitting out in my garage gathering dust. I think I've lost the electronics for it. I could kick myself. I bought that thing in 1980 brand new. Truth is, though, I hated it. You can't really sit with it, and it was heavy as all get-out. The metal neck looked sort of cool but wasn't nice to play, at least for me.
I had one of those for a while. It had very fancy woods on the body, fancy birdseye maple neck inserts and Petillo Precision triangular frets. I kept flats on it but that didn't alter the tone the way I had hoped. That and the weight eventually turned me off to it and I sold it.

I have a 650B and love mine but mine is not short scale. My fretless bass is though. Also a Kramer.

That's what I thought - I/my Dad/our store had one years ago and it was SUPER stable. And yeah - they definitely didn't have truss rods - the whole neck is a (non-adjustable) truss rod!
His pal must have lived in the arctic and carried it around in a plastic shopping bag if it was changing.
I dig Kramers. I'd rock that one. I had a DMZ-5000 in high school and college; I'd like it back. I remember it being medium scale.
Kramer Kwestion: Anyone with any experience re-fretting them with those ebanol fingerboards? That's my big worry about buying another Kramer -- what if the frets are shot after 30-35 years?

Wow. Ricks and rare aluminum necked Kramers.... I dont think my GC has anything over $400 in the bass department!
I used to have one, and while it was certainly not my go-to gig bass - I do miss it. Great tone!

I've owned half a dozen Kramers - never encountered this issue. The curvature was based upon the strings I put on the bass, and never changed otherwise.
There are three in the St. Louis area but the one Dr. Cheese was at regularly has the nicest items of the three. To be fair, there's usually not much even then but they have several nice basses around. Nice Blue P loaded with Delano's, an L2500 tribby, couple decent used Jazz.
Well he had to adjust the string height on the bridge all the time, and loosen the strings off after playing, as the action was constantly changing.

Maybe my buddy's bass had something uniquely wrong with it.... but it was a pain in the butt for him, and was ultimately the reason he got rid of it.
