Looking for Strange and Unique Pedals

All good suggestions guys and I'll definitely want to delve more into these pedals and do more research. For the moment, I've gotten my hands on an original mu-tron II (couldn't pass up the deal) and I think I'll be adding the Earthquaker Devices Afterneath with an Envelope filter of sorts (probably MXR Bass Envelope Filter).
At that point I think I'll build a separate soundscape pedalboard with the Judder and 4046-M on it. Just tentative thoughts at least

I'd just like to note that I was more interested in the frequency filter aspect of it, rather than the enveloping aspect. I feel the Proteus puts the frequency filter (Lo Pass) on the foreground, which is what I wanted. If the the standard funk quack is really what you look for, it does it too, but IME there are many other candidates for that, that allow for finer tuning in that area.Nice!

It is NOT that funk quack per se`, I am after. I am after a filter that is highly responsive to the touch/dynamics. Most of the quacky ones I have heard were too thin sounding for my taste...but then; I have not heard all too many in person yet.

I have, and I do like it! It does work better with a passive bass though (it will be more expressive). I actually bought a buffer buster to use with it (I've got active MEC pick-ups).
I would say that it's probably more aimed towards guitar, but if you're experimental in your bass playing it might definitely please you.

I should mention that I haven't used it in a band context or a live situation. Only experimenting, writing, and playing at home...

The original 00Funk has a lot of body to the tone, depending how you set it, plus has separate volumes for dry and effect levels.

Ah... I found a three part bass OD thing...called bass dirt on parade or some such, which I found very very informative and useful!

Bog? The 2nd generation / current 00Funk is probably great too. The Funkzilla, depending how you set it, can have very little quack and a lot of heft. You can also set it so the quack is really only heard on the higher notes.

The original 00Funk is quite large. Funkzilla is same length as a BOSS pedal, about an inch wider and not as high.
I was browsing through this thread and thanks to this post I discovered a fantastic pedal. This is amazing, we sometimes include ambient or texture moments in my band and while I already have a delay this is so much different. All the video I've heard on youtube sound fantastic, I might have something for my GAS now!
To avoid only bumping the thread, I'll add a weird pedal suggestion: the Boss PS3 Pitch Shifter\Delay.
It's got several modes where the delay repetitions are pitch shifted and modified and get some pretty interesting sounds, from chorus-like to wet weirdness. And then there's the special mode number 7, a pitch-shifted reverse delay of some sorts:

I have to suggest that anyone interested in new/weird/unique pedals check out Juan from The Mars Volta's pedalsandeffects youtube channel. He is constantly putting out new videos of reviews and demos of some of the stranger pedals out there, always with both guitar and bass. Very helpful when spelunking through the cavernous world of pedals. PedalsAndEffects
One of my all time favorite weird noise makers is the Utter Stutter by OHNOHO effects. Its a feedback looper, so it by itself is basically just a tremelo pedal. Once you put some other pedals into its feedback loop, you get into some of the most absurd territory that iI've ever heard. Here's the site itself, looks like they're out of stock atm but there are some fine demo vids there. OHNOHO

Another great one that I find tons of uses for is the WMD Geiger Counter. I have one with the bass mod so I lose less of my low end, but its basically a sample rate reducer/bit crusher/ring mod all in mod. It's got a bank of 255 different wave forms that you can have your signal processed by, along with a dozen other parameters and knobs, making it an endless rabbit hole of messed up noises. It pairs incredibly with an octave, especially a synthy one like my OC-3.

Boss SL-20 Slicer is the one of my beloved pedals. You can play even techno with that and some proper fuzz...
