I don't think either Geddy or Jazz Basses have a place in this thread.
I think the cheapest way to get to Squire' sound would be to track down some sort of cheap '51-style P bass and then add a second single coil pickup at the end of the neck. A big part of that classic Rickenbacker tone comes from having two pickups, one in the 'sweet spot' and one at the end of the neck. Neither pickup is especially powerful, and you get a fuller signal because between the two of them they cover a wide bandwidth.
As for Geddy at the RRHOF, I don't hear Chris' tone in there at all. In my opinion either Jon Camp or Dave Meros should have been playing bass there, and Geddy should have had a front seat view.
