Looking for that Chris Squire sound on a budget

Yup. I remember Rudy Sarzo talking about having the chance to play on John Entwistle's rig, and he noticed right away that he sounded just like ... Rudy Sarzo.

I'm sure his amp set up had something to do with it, he used that old Marshall as a preamp for many years. I believe he was using a Sunn Coliseum rig when saw them in the mid 70's.

I saw a vid of a guy using a Guild B302 presumably with Roto's , plug that into some tube amp and you'll probably be most of the way there, his set up sounded really good.

Dave Meros would have been awesome. I'm not sure anyone gets any closer to the Squire sound. What a great player, too. He really makes Spock's Beard for me.

I didn't understand why they didn't just have Billy Sherwood play. I think in choosing Geddy, they were going for star appeal. I thought he looked out of place playing with them.

Agreed. This has been the only model that I've ever heard that can get a sound close to a Ric. Give it a go, they can be had for reasonable.

During the early years of yes, chris wallpapered & painted and refinished his ric countless times. The body of that rick is super thin, this with his unique playing style, mastery of electronics, rotosounds and his HUGE hands all play into the squire sound!
