I just started the pilot episode. I've seen maybe 5 minutes of the original and I've seen the awful movie from the nineties. We'll see.

Lost in Space: 2018 Netflix Reboot

It's edible. That's about it, but you really should wait for Dr. Smith, she's an evil b....ch.
OK, so I've watched 3 eps so far. As a die hard fan of the original, this show is... well I'll be kind and just say it's not like the original (which was brilliant on all levels). Looking at this show on it's own merits... again I'll be kind and remember something my mother taught me: If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.
So on to the nice stuff... easter eggs. You know, those tiny little references and nods to the original series that you would miss if you weren't looking hard for them. So far I've found:
The family photo album new Dr. Smith looks through in ep 2 shows a picture of Bill Mumy, the original Will Robinson.
The woman that Don West rescues has the character name Angela Goddard. Angela from Angela Cartwright, the original Penny, and Mark Goddard, the original Don West.
Maybe spoilers below:
Spoiler alert... The Dr. Smith character's real name is June Harris, from June Lockart (original Maureen Robinson) and Johnathan Harris, the original (and one and only) Dr. Smith.
Spoiler alert... When the Jupiter 2 breaks out of the ice, they play the theme music used in the 3rd season of the original show.
Spoiler alert... Bill Mumy (original Will Robinson) plays the "real" Dr. Smith.
For the easter eggs alone, I'll watch the remaining 6 episodes, and hope this show gets better.

it’s a cool watch for me during rainy days. decent production, decent actors, odd scenarios, constant conflicts and problem solving, and the typical loud whispering dialogue style of conversations that Hollywood loves so much.

Robby was from the movie Forbidden Planet (highly recommend watching). The Lost in Space robot never had an official name, but was called Class M3 Model B-9 Environment Control Robot, as B-9 it sounded like "benign" meaning friendly, gentle, (not a deadly form of cancer tumor), etc... The Robot was a "General Utility Non-Theorizing Environmental Control Robot", or GUNTER. This was the label on the lid of his shipping crate.
Both Robby and B-9 were designed by Robert Kinosheta. He would sometimes refer to the Lost in Space robot as "Blinky". EDIT note: The correct spelling of Kinosheta's name should replace the 'e' with an 'i'. This forum won't let me spell the name with an 'i' and changes the 'i' to 'poop'. Go figure.

Back on topic. I like it so far, personally.
You should have kept watching, that isn't what they were doing at all. In fact, Maureen and John's relationship is strained, at best. In fact, in a flashback, she is getting him to sign a custody agreement for her to take the kids on the mission. He wasn't even under consideration at the time.

I'm maybe seven episodes in. It's a pretty conventional show, not a lot of surprises. But I think it's very solidly done. I never watched any of the original show.

I wasn't a really big fan of the original show (and, wasn't he really "MISTER" Smith?). My TV theory is - whenever a show has to rely on; a kid; an animal; or some other "Cute" device, it's ultimately doomed to failure. And, LIS was trebly doomed... However, it Did prove an old cliché; even though every other sentient being in the Universe seemed to drop by for a visit, not one guy ever asked for directions back to Earth...
I was a bit put off by the first episodes “start in the middle” approach,but have watched it and the 2nd show,and am finding it pretty good. Even as a kid in the ‘60’s, i thought the original show’s first black and white season was eerie and good,but the whole show devolved into utter nonsense after that.
