Lost & Heroes are the two best written shows on TV.

I am liking heroes a bit better though, being a comic book fan. Heroes is the way Supers would really be, regular people, no Spandex.


Lost has stumbled and has some stupid parts, but over all is a great show.

When this thread started I was convinced that Lost was the best show on TV - but over this last series I think I now like Heroes better - but Lost is still way ahead of everything else!

I think he remembers Desmond saying to him that unless he dies by drowning - nobody will be rescued, including Clare...

Also at that moment he realised that Desmond was prepared to die for him and couldn't stop himself saving Charlie at every turn - unless Charlie was actually complicit in his own death...

So Desmond keeps saving Charlie and nobody gets off the island - he realises he must die and let Desmond get away. If he shuts the door then the grenade will not kill Desmond who can possibly get away and warn the others to be careful ?

But unlike us - Charlie has no reason to suspect that a boat will be full of 'bad guys' - just another way off?

this is true, i just thought that even if he HAD to die by drowning, it was a lame way for them to do it.

i was thinking more along the lines of ben rigs the looking glass to implode on itself as soon as the beakon stops working, thus knocking charlie out and him drowning, or trapping him at the bottom of the ocean under rubble from the station.

he didn't have to shut the door to save des, des would have just jumped out of the station via the way they came in.

i have loved every episode of lost, and i loved the finale, i just think the way they killed charlie was cheesy.

I thought it was pretty cool - Charlie looked peaceful for the first time - drowning and thinking he had saved them all.

I think he knew it would never work with Clare and that nobody really trusted a former heroin addict - so this was the only way he could be accepted - by sacrificing himself.

I also feel that he was sort of "touched" that Desmond was prepared to go underwater for him and then came to save him - it was like he saved his only true friend, by shutting the door!

I think the point about a black neighbourhood was spot on - but why is nobody saying Walt - as this is at about the same time he appears to Locke?

I thought this was a big clue although I can see the logic of the Michael being unpopular, thing - it's Walt who appears amongst the dead and brings Locke back...?

i'm with the Walt theory. the first thing i noticed was that the coffin looked a bit small for a full sized man.

i also think that charlie may have the chance to be rescued by desmond at the last second. charlie was shown back stroking toward the portal during the last few seconds and the portal looked big enough for charlie to be pulled through if desmond were to swim around and get him. perhaps desmond will have a last second vision showing him that Charlie needs to live.

I think Jacob can take the form of anyone to anyone. I think when Walt appeared for Locke, Eko's brother for Eko, and other non-descript encounters, it was all Jacob. Who or what Jacob is, exactly, is still a mystery though.

I don't think Locke's father was not Jacob. This was not a non-descript encounter, Locke's father knew details of past events, so I think it was actually him, but how he got to the island, I don't know.

Remember when Locke and Ben were going to see Jacob, and they passed over a line of sand, that Locke took note of? I think it was the cloud monster, lying dormant. I think it's another tool that Jacob employs, that Ben knows about, but lies to the Others about.

They have vidcaps from Lost and they captured 11 frames where you can actually see Jacob - a bit fuzzy but distinctly human in shape - so he is a person in some sense?

But of course who is a mystery and why he is so difficult to see...?

The end is in sight for ABC's acclaimed island mystery Lost, but fans will have to wait until 2010 for all the answers.

In a highly unusual move, the network announces plans today to end the show after three more shortened seasons of 16 episodes each. The episodes will air consecutively, repeat-free, from February to May.

ABC's bold step marks a response to the show's producers, who have been eager to set a finish line to better plot out their convoluted mystery of plane-crash survivors and to placate fans who are frustrated that the show seemed to be vamping its way to a conclusion.

"Among fans there was an unease that they were making an investment in a show that's complicated without any sense of where that's going to lead them," co-creator Damon Lindelof said in an interview.

Now, with a still far-away ending in sight, Lindelof says he and executive producer Carlton Cuse have "specific designs for ending the next two seasons" and promises that with the answer-filled season finale May 23, viewers "will begin to get an idea of what that design will be, and it will not be at all what they expect."

The finale completed filming in Hawaii on Saturday, a day after Lindelof and Cuse signed new contracts that will keep them working on Lost exclusively for the duration. With 48 more episodes due, the show will have completed 60% of its planned six-season run.

"It's practically unprecedented in network TV to announce the end of a show this far out," Cuse says.

ABC Entertainment president Steve McPherson says the unusual long-term commitment is "a unique situation" he would be unlikely to repeat for other series. "It's one of the best shows that's ever been on," he says. "It's got brilliant storytelling, incredible character work, and takes chances beyond anything that's on the air now."

With Desperate Housewives, Lost re-energized ABC in fall 2004 and became a top 10 series. But after two time-slot switches, interruptions for low-rated repeats and a mystery that tried the patience of some fans, Lost has lost some steam. Ratings are down about 14% this season, though Lost still ranks highly among young adults and is the most heavily recorded show on DVRs.

McPherson concedes that splitting the current third season in two "was not the best for the show" and says the network also is discussing a return to an earlier time slot to draw more family viewership.

Shorter seasons will allow plots to be more tightly constructed and "will make it a real event," Lindelof says. "We won't have to do episodes where people are standing on the beach looking at the water and wondering what's going to happen next."

Will Lost risk losing fans' interest with an eight-month lag? "People wait longer than eight months for the next books and films in the Harry Potter story and they don't seem to lose interest," Cuse says. "We have faith that our audience, knowing exactly how much of the story we have left, is going to be with us for the rest of the ride."

But, Lindelof says, "the last five minutes of (this month's) finale are going to seal our fate."

You may be right - the big "theme" of the series 3 finale was people coming back from the dead...?

But I think it's unlikely... as the actor wants to go and make more films - possibly the Hobbit with Peter Jackson....
