Or Phil Lesh's Seastones.And say, Neil Young's Weld ...

Truth. I first heard ‘New York’ between Theory III & Vocal Jazz rehearsal.I am eternally appreciative of the Velvet Underground for helping me find what's really important in music after a disastrous stint in music school
I was trying to count how many times I have jammed on "Sweet Jane" and even "Rock and Roll" just in the last cuppla years.
Checking that out now. So far not really my cup of coffee, but we'll see. Jazz on speed, acid, and dodging getting poked in the eye? Then again, some people felt like MMM was basically all heroin, acid, and getting beat with a cudgel.Go back to back with Pat Metheny's Zero Tolerance For Silence. Go ahead, I dare you!![]()
I have it on CD, a "friend" gave it to me after one listen, I think.Checking that out now. So far not really my cup of coffee, but we'll see. Not a Neil fan? I can listen to Neil all day.And say, Neil Young's Weld ...
I'm planning on working up a few of the R&R A arrangements on guitar now that I've got my electric back in action. We did a few in my mid 80s Seattle jam band, oddly enough, and they always went over well.My introduction was "Take a Walk on the Wild Side". Sometimes I like other artists' covers of Lou's songs, but I've yet to hear a cover that touches the versions on R&R Animal (assuming you're really into intense rock rather than experimental stuff). Now those are fun to jam along with.
Good lord is that the truth. No one can mangle their own songs live like Bob & Lou can. The VU box set laid bare Lou's love for Dylan in the early demos of VU material on there.Lou is right up there with Neil Young and Bob Dylan in confounding me by constantly changing his approach and getting lost in the weeds more often than not.
Two great songs but I like the Mitch Ryder and Mott the Hoople cover versions better than the originals.

My introduction to Lou was when my brother brought “Transformer” home (he also played me the Mitch Ryder record). I didn't actually hear the VU until repressings of the first two LPs showed up in the bargain bins. I like both of them but “Sunday Morning”, “Run Run Run” and ‘The Gift” are all low spots. I prefer the cranked up noise aspects the most and I liked Nico’s vocals enough to buy a bunch of her solo albums which John Cale had a strong hand in.
Of the solo Lou albums, after Transformer, Berlin and Rock and Roll Animal are my favorites. That’s funny because they are all so different.
I stopped following Lou in the 80s and only recently bought a CD comp which covers that period.
I would have bought it if all it had was Intro.Rock and roll animal is one of my favorite albums OF ALL TIME.
