I took a Tai Chi class once in the East Village and he was there, a longtime pupil of Ren Guangshi. Afterwards he talked guitar pedals with someone, was a real gearhead. Here he is doing Tai Chi with Metallica.
I have a lot of his early albums, lot of great individual songs hidden in so-so albums. NEW YORK was his masterpiece. I fell away from listening around 1990 when his album with John Cale about Andy Warhol (Songs For Drella) came out, and the last single of his I remember liking was 'Sword of Damocles'
- hot bands, and great bass players. My favorite bands of his were the Rock 'n' Roll Animal live band and then the Blue Mask band with Robert Quine. The New York-era band with Rob Wasserman was pretty great too.
