Low Down Sound 15/6.5 Cab

MXR M80 has highly underrated distortion :) Iffin you can boost the bass at the amp enough.

PW, you should turn up next time. That recording's tough to hear the bass on for me. :)

Stuff like that makes me want to follow through on my EUB gas. There was a super sexy one down at the bass place not too long ago. Too bad I have absolutely no sense of intonation at all :P

Edit: Do they make one with frets?:P

Heh...I get asked to turn up quite often. And the less I pay attention to that, the more gigs I get. Go figure! Keep in mind that that's a winery gig too though.

I'll try to do one with bowing and distortion tomorrow. You'll prolly never ask me to turn up again after you hear that...;)

Anyhow, the 6ND410 really does work well for distortion, for sure.

I actually adjusted my eq quite a bit with this cab. I've cut my treble rolloff completely out, and unscooped a little mids. Unlike KJ, I found I like the attenuator at noon, with the "contour I" engaged on the Iamp, and no other mid/high rolloffs. I wound up liking deep + contour I, with +5db @ 135hz or so and +5db @ 350hz or so.

The 6nd410 really is obviously so much better than the closed back mids it's not even funny. Also, its 800-1200hz area is just so pleasant it made me want to add 5db of it back in. Prior, I was basically hacking the crossover region out (with the DRB 3080, 3015LFs crossed over to an 8 MRA at 1200hz), with around -10db from that region.

Ryan, I think you're going to love it. I know we've traded PM's, so you might remember I play two EV TL606's, which are 3.2 cubic feet (before subtracting driver volume), loaded with 3015's. My main basses are 4 string P's with Hipshot XTender keys for drop d, and these cabs are perfect. Except they're a little heavier, about 44 pounds or so. Having similar performance in a 28 pound cab sounds pretty amazing to me!

Just to be clear, I preferred the mid driver at that 10 o'clock attenuator position on Chef's cab. On the cab that you have, noon sounded GREAT, and given that you have the 3db cut built in at the noon setting, and Chef's cab does not, it seems we are hearing the same thing.

Also, I found myself cutting a bit of mids at around 800hz for the 'best tone' on these cabs (based on my tone goal). I think that's similar to the 'contour 2' preset on your iAmp, but still pretty close to what you were doing.

I had two mesa diesels reloaded with 3015's: they were really great!
having that available in a 28lb package=priceless...

Yeah I'm really excited for the cab, especially considering the tone/price/weight ratio. Sorry for the slight derail, but we can all agree the performance of the Kappalite 15s is amazing.

A lot of what a tweeter does is provides instrument detail outside of the natural overtone series the string makes. That's partly why slappers like 'em, and it's good for acoustic instruments of course, too. That's why I have a HF section ... But I still have to question the impact of that crossover as well - especially for acoustic instrument representation.

i think for me to be happy for use with DB, this application might have to be three way.

I dunno if it's possible to add some small "off/on" tweet via highpass in this lil lds 15/6, or, if i'd be best served by ordering another one with dedicated threeway, and another l-pad or some such thing. I'm no engineer.
