Coax. No tweet.

Actually, coax tweeter. The Coax tweeter is under the dust cap of the driver, similar to the Bag End 'x' models. I went this route so that I could get the smallest box possible, since the additional of a stand-alone tweeter would result in the box being quite a bit larger to make room in the baffle board for the stand-alone tweeter. I also went the rear porting for the same reason.

This cab was kind of an experiment, and Don and I had fun with it. My design goal was the highest quality, full range 112 that I could get in the smallest possible dimensions. Don did a GREAT job with this one.

It's a great sounding little box, and the B&C tweeter is beautiful sounding.

The snippage was sort of arbitrary. I found the speaker on US Speaker:

http://www.usspeaker.com/B&C-12CXT-1.htm

Well, at least I assume it's the one. It's got the lowest Fs as far as I can tell.

$259 just for the speaker. How much did the finished product cost? What did Don do for a crossover?

Hmmm - the CXT has a tiny little xMax (3.0mm) perhaps it's this one?

http://www.usspeaker.com/B&C-12CX32-1.htm

Still not very deep displacement at 4.0mm. $430 for the raw speaker - youza!

I'm in the market for a pair of small 1x12's - LDS would be fine by me!

Tell me more!

Yeah, it was an expensive speaker (the $259 rings a bell), but I decided to take the plunge, since I love the B&C Neo's that Epi used to use. Don has a guy that custom makes his crossovers (Patterson) from what I understand.

It's a killer little box, and the speaker takes a lot of power and abuse without breaking up.

I believe the cost of the finished box was right around $500, including the spray on cover option. You could take $100 off of that using the Eminence Coax Neo, which I'm sure also sounds great.

Let him know that at least one other guy (me) is hoping to get a couple built. I'll contact him myself, but I'm interested. I don't expect it to make much of a difference to him other than it possibly being a bit more worth his while to look up his notes.

P.S. Please post a price, if you'd be so kind.

I was thinking about "what gear do you trust" to tell you the truth about how something sounds last week. I don't have a long list. I trust my Tokai P-Bass to sound like a P-Bass should sound, which is to me how a bass should sound. I pretty much trust my AMP BH-420 to tell me the truth - with the Enhance on it's too sweetened, with the Enhance off it is a bit nasally and harsh, but at this point I know it.

In the end the one rig that I really pretty much trust is my Fender R.A.D. Bass amp. That little guy is so cool!

I really need to get a cab that I really trust and then find out if I really trust my Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0. The Shuttle hasn't proven untrustworthy yet, but it takes time to earn trust and I haven't had it long enough for that to have happened yet.

+1 on the R.A.D. kudos! I used this amp for a monitor during church services (approx 200 - 300 people per service). The sound man kept telling me to turn my amp DOWN so he could properly mix FOH. Mind you, the R.A.D. puts out a whopping 25w or so...

Qtowens, you be the #11 member! Nice cabs!

Sorry for the delay, I've been cramming on theory, and doing kids homework with them. Fun stuff.

Anyhow, Low Down Sound brick and mortar in Ferndale MI is closed (you are probably quite aware of this, but others might not be). Looks like Don is going to concentrate on his cabs from now on. I talked to him the other day, and he said he's going to do what he loves best from now on out. :D

I'll miss the storefront though. Lotta cool bassists hung there.

Wait a minute... they're all cool. For gosh sakes they're bassists! ;)

Too bad about the shop closing. I can understand though: I'd thought about opening a shop once and the idea of being behind the counter for 8+ hours a day until I could afford to hire someone to help me kept me out. Even after it's a success you have a lot of stuff to do that isn't really fun.

I've always been intrigued by these cabs. Never heard anything but good about them & Don.

Thinking about two Neo 8x8s. Don's kind of a 8" speaker specialist, isn't he? I mean, I know he builds everything, but he's probably most famous for his 8" creations, wouldn't you say?

I know checking with Don is what I should do, & will do, but since I ran across this thread, I'll ask here, too. As far as speaker configuration for two 8x8s, would it be better to do 2 vertical rows of 4 per cab & set them next to one another(they'd be too tall to stack w/an amp or pre/power on top) or do each cab with 2 vertical rows of 3 on the sides & 2 in the center (positioned/centered between the speakers on the sides)?
