Oh man! Very nice cabs, dude. I'm really digging the vintage tweed. Are those 10s or 12s? And how much does each cab weigh?

Specs: per cab--
3x10 Eminence delta neo's
5.3 Ohms-600 watt power handling capacity
Original style tweed tolex with oxblood grill cloth
Ampeg style leather handles
All chrome hardware with removable back panel
Beefy rubber feet
45lbs.

what kinda sound were you going for, and, how'd that work out for ye?

I was going for looks and weight first, same things I look for in women Lol!
But seriously...I gave Don,the cosmetic/weight specs and the sound I had in mind and he delivered all of them in spades.

I am still breaking the cabs in at medium volume, won't have a chance to hear how they will sit in a live band mix for a couple more weeks (the voice is in Cali.) but so far they sound Great!
Nice tight, articulate, transparent really good low "B" bottom even, which was a pleasant surprise for neo's.
I've run an Eden WTX260 an Ampeg V4B-AV and a VT-Bass and True-Voice pre thru an AI Focus 2 SerIII and just ran the AI straight with the results/differences for all of them being readily apparent out of the cabs.

If I had to compare them to another cab I would have to say they compare very favorably towards Berg's.

Outstanding build quality too,in the pic below I placed a dime for reference.

Here's an old snap of my all neo 2x12+2x6, with the grill that matches my now long gone MuscMan HD150:

and a look inside:
lds_3.jpg

Now, when Bill-Fitz-M saw that, he started griping about lining speakers up, and off axis response and what-not.
"muddy...blah-blah...mid-drivers not performing...blah-blah."
I figgered it was a bunch of rubbish.
But, I also figgered, I'd go home and try flipping the cab 90 degrees as he suggested, and see what it sounded like.

Ya know what? Apparently, he knows what he's talking about;)
The highs were more present. The lows were tighter, *and* more defined. I ran it that way at my next gig, and damn if it didn't sound better enough for the drummer to notice it.

Here's a snap of what I'm talkin' about (or, what Bill's talkin' 'bout) along with the new steel grill I had Don make. No sense posing around with that cloth grill ,without the old matching head; and I feel better about my speakers with this grill in front of them should something untoward happen.

Note how the 12's are more in a vertical line, the 6's are fo-sho more in a vertical line, and they're all kinda in line with each other much better. I'd have never thought that would have mattered much.

I was wrong.
Thanks Bill!

Cool!
Bet it sounds m-m-m-good!

Nice, Chef, I dig that cab. Though I'm partial to the silver cloth, even though it's less practical.
10", see the specs he listed above.

Yeah,I'm partial to the looks of the silver cloth as well...to the point that when I picked up the tweeds last week from Don,I dropped off a SWR 12 Stack,to have the chrome metal grill replaced with some Ampeg AV blue cloth.
And that does look like a rockin' cab there Chef, cool story about the rotation,I did that with a fridge once...talk about a stage plank flapper!
And thanks to all for the kind words about my new tweeds.

On another note...I am so glad that Don,decided to continue putting his cabs out there after closing down his storefront. Not only is he a stand-up guy,but in this economic downturn he is one of the last Mohican's left when it comes to being able to obtain high quality cabs that can be made to your personal specs.

You're welcome. Since you're a musician and not an audio engineer your not knowing how drivers should be arranged is understandable. That most cabinet manufacturers don't seem to know, not so much. :rollno:

No need to  at a cab that was likely customer designed.

Don will do what the customer asks; and in this case, the customer ain't always right, by science.

I bought that cab used.
I like it, despite whatever....

So the best way to place the speakers is directly over one other/directly on top of each other? What would be the reasons for not doing so? Space saving and/or just not completely understanding what works best sonically?

Question: Chef (& anyone else who has worked with Don @ LDS), if someone specifically asked Don to build a cabinet with the speakers aligned vertically, for example, a cab that he's built previously with speakers off-axis and/or horizontally arranged, would he be annoyed? The cab dimensions would need to be completely revised, right? And there are formulas to plug in number & size/type of speakers (and configuration?) that will spit out optimal cab dimensions or at least, optimal cubic area of the cab? I'm specifically thinking about a 2x15/2x6.5 cab of his or maybe doing a 2x15/2x8.

Yeah,Don will do his best to produce whatever it is you have in mind. And I've never seen him get annoyed at anything or anyone.
Quite the opposite really...he is just as open to try new things as us lowly musicians are.

You know Chef,I have been thinking about the deal with your cab...maybe it was spec'd for a vintage tone? Yet when you rotated it,the tone described suggested it produced more of a modern tone? This is very interesting...since laying it on it's side flat like that would give you more stage coupling, have you ever tried it without the casters-right side up? And if there were any diff's without the casters attached?

Next time I get together with Don,I'll have him check this thread and maybe ask him to let me have a go at trying this out for myself. It would be awsome to have a convertable cab like that-vintage/modern by just being able rotate it's orientation.

I never leave casters on for a show, so, no comment on increased/decreased coupling.

Eric Cioe commissioned the cab, and yes, it was supposed to "sound vintage," and work with his Fender Bassman 135 tube amp to prived a nice vintage tube tone. Which it does very well. I looove the Walkabout with that cab.

While I would say it's a little more noticeably brighter and tighter "on it's side," that by no means pushes it into the realm of sounding "modern," at all.

Don was not the manufacturer I was referring to. I know that he gives the customer what the customer orders. It would of course be remiss not to point out to the customer that a desired driver configuration isn't the best one, but if the customer insists on doing it anyway that's the customer's choice. I was referring to the rest of the industry. For example, the way you now have your cab set up it's an example of how a well designed cab should look. The bad news is that you'd have to look long and hard to find a similar offering from the usual sources.
