Low Down Sound Cab Club started!

Hi, from reading through your posts it seems like many of you guys have tried several different configurations of LDS cabs. I am in the process of putting together a small rig to use for as a doubling rig. I'll be using a Shuttle 6.0 and was going to start with either a Neo 1X10 or a neo 2X8, with the idea of adding a 12 at some point if I need it. I don't play anything too big. Anyway, I'd love to hear some opinions from you guys, especially from anyone using a 1x10 from Don.

Thanks

"Doubling rig"

The 2x8+horn kicks Major Booty (saaaaalute!) in this regard. I much prefer it to a 110.
Furthermore, I prefer the long throw 8's to the neo's. More throw = more depth.

To quote Don Oatman, speaking about this cabinet: "This thing has more ass than a pack of mules!"

Its loaded with Eminence Legend BP 102s and a Selenium driver with a custom crossover. The cab is very lightweight, due to the birch plywood construction. I haven't weighed it, but it feels like about 70lbs. or so (which is great when your breaking your back hauling a 98lb. Ampeg monster). I plugged my SR5 into it first, and went right for the B string. No issue there. This thing sounds fantastic, on it's own. So far so good!

The cab looks great too! The construction is top notch. I had Don cover it with tolex, similar to my Ampeg cab, and use the chrome corners. You can't tell much from the photos, but the face is Low Down Sound blue (Wearing it proudly!). There are plenty of choices available, as far as the look of the cabs. Don will make them look however you want. He asked me what I wanted, every step of the way. He's a really nice fellow.

It's going out for the first time this weekend. :bassist:

Do I get a number?

damn it... now these will haunt me these cabs look friggin sweet and I bet they sound awesome

These just in!

Gigged it this weekend. :) What a great cab!

On Friday, I was a bit concerned about the low end being too much on stage. I dialed out a bit of the lows and ran with it. On Saturday, about midway through the first set, it seemed the cab opened up in the mid range, some (or evened out? I dunno...). I'm guessing the speakers broke in, right about then. I was a very happy camper, to say the least. :hyper: This thing sounds really great!

I couldn't be more pleased. I wouldn't hesitate to have Don build me another cab. I can't wait to hear it with my new MarkBass SA450!

Low Down Sound

That looks nice!

Dude: I'm a convert. I've played a loooot of high end stuff, and the LDS stuff I have is every bit their equal.

That 2x12+2x6 is a beautiful old school cab, and with the mid drivers it's actually pretty creditable to a point for more modern stuff.

The 2x8+ horn, and 4x8+ horn are very close to Epi410UL both in tone and coverage...big bottom, very shiny on top...nearly enough so that you'd almost call it scooped until you pull the horn back to about 40% or so.

Great build quality, component quality, and Don will either "build wahtever the heck you want," or deliver "known goodness."

off my soapbox;)

I am very impressed with their customer service right off the bat.. I emailed them today.. and not only got the answer back within the hour. but it answered all of my questions and added some good key points that i never thought of...
That is a good sign to me..
Those cabs look and keep with the stuff that i see from other high end builders...

Don is a really nice guy. We talked for about a half hour, when I went to pick up my cab. His shop is only about a half hour drive from me. He's dedicated to producing the best possible quality and designs. He told me he loves what he's doing. It shows in the build and sound quality.

My 4-10 cab was made from 13 ply birch. Even with four Legends in it, it still weighs about 20lbs. less than my SVT-410HE. I love it! The cab is tuned beautifully, with no noticeable peaks, and it thumps. Like Don said: "It has more ass than a pack of mules!"

I wouldn't hesitate to have LDS build me another cab.

EDIT: Now where's my number??? dang it!

Hey SVT; this isn't to talk Don down, but, don't get used to that speed of response.
He's a one man show, and pretty busy.

Flipside: he ain't at all like Dr Bass with response/buil time either.

It usually takes him a day or two to get back to me.
Acceptable for one guy running a whole shop.
