Low Down Sound Club, Part Four

I've been on a hunt for a lightweight 4x10 cab to go with my Fender Bassman 100T (an alternative to the matching Fender model), and I just discovered that LDS is right here in the Seattle area. My question to you LDS fans is: Would you go with the Eminence 2510 neo speakers or Faital 10FE200? The Eminence seems better on paper in terms of sensitivity, weight (although the Faital is almost as light as neo), and power, but I've heard that Faitals are supposed to sound pretty great. Anyone have experience with these?

I recommend the eminence basslite s2010 drivers. They are cheaper, lighter, and voices for bass guitar better then the 2510. They have about the same displacement. I wouldnt use the faital at all. Sounds nice but, is way to smooth for electric bass, wont be as punchy, go as low or handle as much power as either eminence. S2010 all the way.

That's great, thanks! Not really my area of expertise.

Holy moly. Don outdid himself. Fedex actual weight with a hell of a packing job was 81.3 lbs. i just got home and have to run right back out. But, i have rehearsal with 2 bands tomorrow.

What did you decide on? I have an LDS 4x10 on the way (should be Monday delivery). I wanted a sealed fridge style 4x10, and he recommended the SVT reissue speakers (b810). I have a 100T.

I'm also getting a sealed 4x10 for my !00T, which he just started on today. I wanted the lightest non-neo (just to save some money) cab he could make, so I went with some Faitals. He said they'd be easy to swap out if I didn't like them, but I'm betting just about anything he does is going to sound really good.

Greetings gentlemen. I just recently purchased an LDS 210 4ohms in the classifieds. It's loaded with 2 - Eminence Kappalite 3010LF 10" High Power Neo Subwoofer Speakers and a 5 1/4" mid tweeter with a custom LDS Crossover. I have not had the chance to gig with it yet, just auditioned it in my basement for about 10 minutes so far with my Fodera and Glock Blue Soul. My first impressions so far:

- The cab is built like a tank. What an excellent build. I would have preferred recessed handles but definitely not a deal breaker, especially if it would have sacrificed tone.
- I am amazed how much power this cab can handle. I was not able to get it to fart out when dropping a low B. Really impressive for a 210 cab.
- The finger tone is excellent. I used a splash of eq on my glock and the tone was killer. Nice tight bottom, very clean, and the mids are voiced really well for finger style coming out of this cab.

So now the problematic point so far:
- I'm not crazy about the slap tone this cab produces. It's got a harsh sound around the 2k area. In fairness, I played around with the tweet a bit, but I have not really worked this cab extensively yet. My gig only requires me to slap on a few tunes so in the end, I guess I can live with it, especially since it will only be a backup cab for me, and because the finger tone is really killer.

Just as a measure for comparison, my main cabs are a pair of AE112's which absolutely does it for me whether I'm using my Glock or Monique/Minnie. Figure I mention that so you know where my ears are at. I do not have to make any eq adjustments with the Bergs for slap or lines. Also to be clear, I'm not a fan of the Marcus Miller clickity clackity slap tone. I'm an older dude and more old school preferring the slap tone of the 70's (Larry Graham, Pleasure, Rick James, Louis Johnson, Fatback, etc). For me, the song "Glide" by Pleasure is the ultimate slap tone.

So my question to you, does anyone else have this design and experiencing the same issue? I'm wondering if its the 3010 LF's or the tweet, or crossover that is creating this harshness to my ear? It almost sounds to me that there is a voice getting lost between the speakers and the tweet when I slap. Any recommendations, experiences, would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The 301xLF drivers are not full range. The 3010LF does have a spike and dip between 1 and 2 Khz. Not sure where the tweeter comes in, but you may not like the tonality of that driver.

Depending where the tweeter comes in, the 301xLF drivers really need a mid driver to make the most out of them.

What is the mid driver ? Some prefer the " softer " tone of the Eminence mid over the " harshness " of the 18 Sound mid driver.

Thanks for the replies.

Ah that makes sense to me. Seems to be what I'm hearing. I do like how these 10's handle the low end when playing finger style, especially the low B, so perhaps it would be possible to just replace the tweet, unless anyone here has a suitable replacement for 3010LF.

Btw, here is a pic from the sale thread.

Could you tell us what the tweeter is ? I had Don build me a 212/cab ( 3012HO's ) with an 18Sound tweet ( XD125 ) with a JBL waveguide, that is my fave cab of all time.
