Low Down Sound Club, Part Four

Some of you may remember I had Don build me a 12/6/1+12 sub cab set.
Which I used the heck out of and love lots.

I bought a used LDS 15/6/1 some time ago, "just cause it was there." I like to try stuff.

It seems to be good for about ~70% of the SPL of the 12-stack; which is more than I generally need.
It's a tall cab, especially when I added casters; so I hear myself well with it.
It's a light big cab, at ~55lbs.
So; that and the GK MBF800 is pretty much what I use for everything now....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but have'nt you tried that 15/6/1 style before , or am getting senile ? If so, what do you like about it now, as opposed to before? I tried that style, and also a 12/6/1 and wound up not caring for either one, no matter what head I used.

I had a 15/6 before, that I didn't like for (at least) two reasons:
it was "built square," and thus much lower to the ground than this one;
and it had no horn.

Ahh, ok. I had a taller version myself, and , one night, I was loading out, and forgot something. I turned around and walked right into it, and knocked it on its back. It did'nt take much.

I have yet to find an excuse to stack the 12/6/1 on the 15/6/1; but, we're opening for 3 Dog Night at a large outdoor venue in June...............

I don't know of there are any original members left in that band ;)

So I spoke to Don, and as per his recommendation, I wound up swapping out the 3010LF's that were installed by the previous owner, and installed new 2510 Deltalite II's which what the cab was designed for.

The cab sounds fantastic. I also love that Don had a handle installed for tiltback use. Nice!

Since I am selling this cab, I felt it was the right thing to do to install the speakers that were designed for the cab. Someone is going to get a sweet deal since it's basically a new cab now.

If anyone is wondering why I am parting with it, it was one of those TB impulse/gas purchases! I really don't need it and was curious to try out one of Don's cabs. Thx for your help gentlemen.

Min looks much the same, except that I have the True Quantum finish he used to offer. It's a great cab, that unfortunately has developed some noise in the midrange and tweeter sections. I think it's the crossover. I've considered swapping it out for the newer Greenboy True 3-way crossover, but it would be a crapshoot as these aren't totally to fEarful spec even if they are very close. I might just get another one of Ralf's crossovers that Don supplied with it originally.
