Want Don to build a single cab w/two 15s & two 6.5s. Looks like almost everyone (maybe everyone) uses Eminence Kappa Lite 3015LFs http://www.usspeaker.com/homepage.htm & 18 Sound 6ND410s http://www.usspeaker.com/homepage.htm . Sure they're excellent. Know Don must get a decent discount, but they're still relatively high priced components. Just wondering about opinions on a different set of 15s & 6.5s (Eminence Delta Lite II 2515s
http://www.usspeaker.com/homepage.htm & either Eminence Alpha Lite-6A-CBMRs http://www.usspeaker.com/homepage.htm or B&C 6 PEV13s http://www.usspeaker.com/homepage.htm).

Retail on (2)3015LFs & (2)18 Sounds is ~$630. Retail on (2)2515s & (2) Alpha Lites is ~$440, about a $190 savings. Although a cab using the 2515s/Alpha Lites probably wouldn't sound quite as good as the 3015s/18 Sounds in a shoot-out, I'm wondering how close it might be. I'm suspecting the 2515/Alpha Lite box would give a pretty good account of itself. Doubt that many cab makers would spec drivers as good as the 2515s/Alpha Lites in their cabs (not that anyone produces 2x15/2x6.5 cabs of course). And if they did spec speakers as good, they'd probably charge an arm & a leg.

The Alpha Lite's range is only 500-4.3, though. So maybe the B&C, 150-8, would be a better choice. Or maybe it's better to just say what the heck & go for the 3015LFs & 18 Sounds.

Haven't spoken with Don yet. Will certainly do it. Just wanted to give all you 15/6.5 cab wise-guys an opportunity to comment ;) .

There is no reason to use anything but 3015LFs. Don gets them very very cheap. I want to say his difference between a 3015LF and 2515 is like 20 bucks a driver. The performance is such that one 3015LF will nearly outperform TWO 2515 IIs when driven to max excursion.

Also, Don's price on 6nd410s is such that you only save like 10 bucks a driver by going with a B&C.

The alphalite doesn't have enough sensitivity to hang with a 3015LF, except for the CBMR, which is closed back and won't sound nearly as good.

Bottom line you're going to shave less than 80 bucks off the cab in order to halve your performance. Bad idea.

Better idea would be to get a single 1x15/6 and get adequate power to run it hard.

More importantly, the fEarful cabinets were designed to optimize the performance of the Kappalites, not the Deltalites.

I am assuming Don would tune the cabs for the deltalites, but for 20 bucks difference the Kappalite is so far ahead in performance it's ridiculous. And the deltalite needs a pretty good sized box too (although not quite as big, IIRC).

Don's done 1515/66's long before the fEarful (and 1212/66s) and used different drivers, sizes and schemes.

Oh, an additional comment on driver swapping: There is something to be said for swapping the midrange drivers to achieve a different innate character. The Faital mid drivers he sometimes use have a "smoother" sound apparently, from what some folks are saying, a little more old schoolish innately. I presume because of the upper mid dip they have.

The B&C 6PEV or Beyma 605nd options have different characters than the 6nd410 too but I can't say anything about that really. Don might be able to say.

I want to say that the phase plug in the 605nd and 6pev13 should increase their top end dispersion a little bit. No idea how much of a factor that would be, but I'd guess minimal.

Be sure to talk over your tone goals with Don from the midrange as i am pretty sure KJung at least liked the Faital better. They're not fEarfuls, but you want to get what's best for you.

I do know that there is a builder out there doing 12/6 and 15/6 cabs with the same Faital driver but I cannot recall the name. West Coast Bass reviewed them :)

All - please excuse this double post, this is in the fEarful thread as well, I need all the help I can get!

Guys - need some help! I just placed a order with Don at LDS to build some fEarful's for me, but even after scouring this and the LDS thread for months, I am not sure what configuration I need!

I currently have (2) Berg AE210's and play in one really loud band and a Blues band that is more reasonable. I use either a Shuttle 9.0 or LMT 800 and my volume is OK, just looking for a different sound. While I would love to have (2) 15/6's, I don't know if I will have the room or want to carry the 50 lb + cabinets up and down the stairs from the basement. (2) 12/6's make more sense, they are lighter and would easily fit in my car. Bottom line, will (2) 12/6's hang with what my (2) AE210's are doing and how much would I be giving up but not having the 15/6's? Or, could I get by with (1) 15/6?

In a perfect world, I would go for the pair of 15/6's, but I am thinking I would really never need them.

Thoughts?

You gotta make that call but FWIW I bet the 12's will do the job just fine and down the road you'll prefer the 12's during load in/out for sure.

That said, you'd never regret a 15" fEarful [or two] while playing... very nice.

Maybe try a single 15/6 and see where its gets ya.

This was sitting on my doorstep today. Loud as **** and under 80 pounds (without neo speakers even), can't wait to shake the band room with this one.

If you're not sure which you need, get a 12/6 + 15/6 stack like Ukiah Bass's. Best of both worlds literally. The speakers don't have many or any phase issues, it'll get as loud or a little louder than a pair of 12/6's, and the 15/6 itself can almost do the mob of a 212/6 when pushed hard.

I have an LDS 15/6. It is important to keep in mind that while these cabs can take a TON of volume (ie 1000w or more) they are not extremely efficient unto themselves (like compared to a schroeder 1212 etc which is VERY efficient but tonally night and day). The key is the amp. If you have an amp that can do 1000w at 8 ohms (or whatever you need for your situation) the 15/6 is an outstanding choice. However, if you are using an LM800 (500w at 8 ohms) the 15/6 is probably not going to do it for your loud band. In that case I would do the 2x 12/6 as you'd get full power from your amp.

Is one 12/6 as loud as one AE210? Not sure. I bet Kjung might have a good idea though.

FYI my LDS 15-6 weighs less than 50 lbs. I'd consider the 15-6, 12-6 stack that Ukiahbass has-pm him for input. Then you'd have the best of all worlds. FWIW I cannot imagine needing 2 of these 15-6s. With my M9 on top the rig was easily loud enough for a 300 person party in a large hotel ballroom in a loud rock setting on a large stage (with PA).

get a quote for a 1515/66... cash check from insurance company... blow the money on hookers and drugs... or buy any damned cab you want.

"Get two 12/6s"

+1

or a pair of 15/6's, either way be sure to get one of the baffles reversed so you can stack em with the mids inline vertically

The insurance company said a receipt from the escort service would not suffice, and the drugs were rejected period! So I ordered a 1515/66 from LDS. My genz shuttlemax works great for my 2 4 ohm Acme B-2's but I presume the LDS 1515/66 will max best with a single channel at 800-1000 watts amp. Gonna swap, sell, trade plus/cash my 500 watt Markbass LMII back up amp. Anybody here with a 1515/66 3015lf etc from LDS can point me towards the optimal lightweight amp for this cab? Thanks!
