I believe one of the 15/6 orderers had a 6nd410 come broken from shipping. Might want to pop your jack plate off and shine a light on the back and see if there's any damage or anything peculiar back there.

That said I would be shocked if it was not the horn. Wiring up a horn cutoff switch would definitely be worth your time.

Yup, my 6ND410 had a crack in it (see pics below). It was noticeable at higher volumes, and it would buzz pretty badly. I noticed the cracks, informed Don, he arranged for a new 6ND410 to be shipped to me, I installed it, and all is right with the world now. ;)

Don told me he's using Duratex. It's a urethane modified terpolymer and it's applied via a (3) step process. It can be sprayed or rolled on...he's rolling it. It's specifically designed for speaker coating. According to their website it's supposed to be durable but Don said he ships a small bottle of touch up paint with the finished speaker...hmmmm. If anyone has a speaker with this coating I would be interested in the durability. Don is going to be starting a couple of 1 x 12's for me in the coming weeks so it would be nice to get some feedback regarding this product.

I'm not sure he's done a cab with this yet, but your description is accurate from what he told me... just couldn't remember the details. Jim Bergantino uses a similar finish, and also provides (on request) a 'repair kit' for the AE in of cabs (a dry powder sort of finish that can be mixed with water).

I'll look forward to seeing a cab with this finish applied. Again, his 'outsourced finish' while not the smoothest or 'prettiest up close' finish, is as hard as granite!

FWIW and FYI he guesstimates that the outsourced finish adds about 4 lbs to a 15/6 cab.

I actually purchased some Duratex from Invalid Link Removed

I wanted to make a couple of custom rack cases to match some cabs. The stuff is surprisingly easy to apply (I rolled it on with the special roller), and looks great! Tough as nails. Matches my Schroeder cabs perfectly.

I checked with Jorg Schroeder and he uses Duratex. Since I've owned a few of his cabs I've answered my own question...it is very durable with a pleasing "industrial" style look. Don uses the matt finish which will probably look better.

Cool!

Don told me he will be bringing over a rather unique cab for me to photograph and do a quick pre shipping test/listen next week..... 2x15/2x6.5, with some 'unique' design features.

Should be fun... I'll post up!

hmmmm... Funny, everybody talked up LDS and Don's customer service. Sorry if this is a little off topice, but I really wanted Don to build me a cab. I spoke with him on the phone twice in a couple of days and sent multiple e-mails as follow-ups to our conversations asking for a quote. The first two e-mails said he would get to it tomorrow. The third didn't get a response. If he is that busy, cool, just let me know up front. I'm only relaying my experience, which seems to be atypical. However, if someone can come across (IMO) as that flaky, I probably don't want to send them money.

I just had another experience with a small start-up pickup builder that was, IMO, weird. I don't think it should take almost 7 weeks to wind a set of pickups (I still do not have them, btw), especially if you are some small, hardly known about person who is NOT beating clients away with a stick.

As a small business owner I just wonder sometimes, how do some of these guys in the music instrument business get away with such odd behavior?

My comments about Don stem from my frustration that I REALLY wanted to check out his cabs and have one built. It's like, "I've got the money, I want to buy, so what's the problem?"
