Amazing cabs. I put up an audio clip a while back that you can hear on my iComposition site. Wonderfully warm, punchy, and grindy, even with my modern amps and basses.

Hey Guys, I've been emailing back and forth with Don, and I've only one decision left to make: which mid driver to go with.
I can't decide whether or not to 'upgrade' to the Neo Fatial mid driver or keep the current mid (not neo, I forget the make) Ken
(anyone), do you have any insight here? I'm not sure what mid driver Don likes to use if it's not the Fatial..., and what sonic differences I might expect

I love the Faital in the 12/6 boxes, since it has a bit of dip in what I call that 'gank' area (1K, 2K?) and goes up almost as high as a tweeter. If you are adding a tweeter to your cab, this becomes a touch less important. I would just talk to Don. Pretty hard to go totally wrong. If you were going with a 12/6, I would say DEFINITELY go with the Faital. The tweeter makes things a bit less clear as to what the benefit would be versus a lower cost mid driver.
My first 12/6 finally got here Friday (I was out of town). Just unpacked it, it looks great! Will play it tomorrow and try to get some pictures.
Anybody ordered covers for these? If so, who would you recommend? I need to get a couple, since Don says my 2nd unit is soon to be here.

I'd forgotten about the Faital mid driver. On the Faital page I see there are a handful of 5 and 6 inch drivers. Which one are we talking about?
Just dropping in to say, man, I love LDS cabs.
I have a 4x8+horn, a 2x8+horn, and a 2x8+mid-driver.
These cover everything I need in one combination or another.
Last night I stacked the two 2x8's vertically, with the mid-driver cab on top, for a blues and jazz type gig. Mesa Walkabout, Reverend PJ...fat, loud, organic, present..just killer.
I have a 4x8+horn, a 2x8+horn, and a 2x8+mid-driver.
These cover everything I need in one combination or another.

Per my PM to you a few days ago, I had the pleasure of playing a 2x (2x8 long throw/mid driver/tweeter) stack driven by my F500 recently. VERY nice... very punchy, very bright, very articulate (unfortunately relatively heavy too... but nice and small). Great sounding cabs, and they can put out some sound!
Yeah, those long throw 8's aren't light.
My 2x8 cabs weigh about 44lbs, and the 4x8 about 65....but man, they just kill me every time!

I've got a LDS 12/6 and an LDS 15/6/1; both with the Faital mid. I'm in Toronto and you're probably not too far way from me. If you want to try them out shoot me a PM.

Finally got home and unpacked my LDS fEarful inspired 12/6. Don is a great craftsman, the cab is very well built and turned out great.
I barely had time to play a few notes through it, but I did notice there isn't much of a difference in sound with my limited playing by moving the L pad knob. Since this is my first experience with a 2 way system, I don't what to expect. I sent Don a note and I am sure he will educate me!
I will give this a good work out Sunday night at the Blues Jam I host and will report back.

Nice. Remember, the attenuator impacts only frequencies at 800hz or higher (or even higher depending on which crossover Don used). If you have a very articulate tone and a nice even response with your bass from lows up through the mids, it will make quite a difference. If you have a scooped tone, or roll of a lot of highs with a passive tone control, and just have a dark tone goal in general, it will be pretty subtle. Much of the sound comes out of that driver, but that mid driver is key for anything from the upper mid/lower treble on up. Those are the frequencies that tend to disappear as you move to the side of the cab (the 'beaming thing') with a more typical cab. This won't happen as much with this design.
Very nice looking, and I bet it sounds great with that head. Stay away from that 'scoop button'!
In order to really hear what that mid driver is doing, just boost your mids with that semi-parametric mid control a bit at 1K and then vary the attenuator. Lots of sound in that mid driver up there!
To give you an example, the clip I have up on my Youtube Channel of the red tolex 1212/6/1 turns the mid driver and tweeter totally off and then slowly brings them up (that's Don doing the knob turning by the way), and you can hear the frequency range of each of the components, if youa re interested. My playing style (which tends to favor digging in a bit toward the bridge, along with the bright Sadowsky bass and the upper mid present Sadowsky Stainless Steel strings provides a nice platform to hear the impact of the different components.

Here is the clip, so you don't have to hunt for it. If you have a decent playback system, you can really hear how the components work together IMO. Of course, this cab will have more upper treble than yours, given the tweeter in the design (three way crossover).
