Thanks, Ken. I will check it out!
very neat amp, man! I got a call from Don today. my 4x10+6.5"/1x18 cab is fully done and will be shipped on monday. should be here around wednesday/thursday. I'm ******** excited!
all of it is in one cab. on the top is the 4x10's and a 6.5" midrange driver instead of a tweeter, and on the bottom is the 1x18. it's roughly the same size as an Ampeg fridge cab. moving shouldn't be too hard. it's got removable casters 3" on the bottom, and it weighs about 80-85lbs. oh, and it's covered in tweed with oxblood grill cloth... ^_^
yep. I my bass has dual outputs that I run in stereo. a Carvin X100B 100w tube guitar amp goes to the top half of the cabinet, and and SWR Workingman's 4004 goes to the bottom half. hopefully I can get a Sunn 1200S for the low amp soon. since both halves of the cab are 4 ohms each, I'd like to get an amp that could be ran in 2 ohm mode if I ever want to run it with one amp.
Thanks hachi,
I was just wondering if a newer, hi xmax 18" was selected. The Carvin 18" driver may be a hi xmax design, I really don't know.
Best of luck with your customized LDS cab. I'll bet it will exceed you sonic goals.
Let us know
Thanks
Okay. So. There aren't any places I can try out nice cabs in Phoenix (NV610 and 610l are having a battle in my brain purely due to reviews here), but I keep going back to the LDS site, going "ooo". Part of it's the blue cabs. I have a thing with deep smurfiness. And the offset speakers. They look like they're makingfaces.
What? I'm a gemini. We're twits. I accept this.
The fEarful designs sound awesome, but throw me a big loop. Don't have enough experience with cabinets to do anything other than get my hands on em, hear, and go, "Grog like." "Grog NOT like." I have a pipe dream of getting some pant flapping in the mix, but my back is seizing as I type that, trying to make my finger hit backspace - since I'm not sure that's possible without 8 10's or something similarly massive.
Will my playing style narrow me down to a couple options rather than a kerjillion? I play assorted things with B strings (sometimes drop A, so 29Hz), I tap (naaaw), slap (double/triple thump), we go from silky coma-patient drool jazz to swedish mathy metal, and a mix of pretty much everything in between. My ultimate tones range the entire gamut from warm and comforting to articulate and cutting to punchy to growling to synth pedaling lows to....yeah.
Would a fEarful build be the way to go on this, or am I 8x10 footprint or bust? I may easily stick my fingers in my ears and forget about any pant flapping bit if I have to, especially since our volume levels aren't atrocious.
Can post a clip to give an idea of what we do, if it'll help. Would call Don, but I got some health issues that make it hard to focus on the phone for more than five minutes at a time.
Hopefully that wasn't too all over the place. Anyhoo. Am I screwed?![]()
