+1 to this. Its just one of those things worth noting.
I'll also agree with there being so many outstanding, above and beyond small builders out there, like ss/bs, W&C, Heavy Electronics, IE, Dwarfcraft, Dr. Scientist...not to mention the bigger and more mainstream builders who take amazing care of their customers like Empress, Diamond, and Aguilar. It goes to show you that when instances come up where builders are doing things that they justify by saying its because they are "small" or "have no profit margin - its just BS. Some of these guys choose to look after their customers and build (and protect) their name brand, whereas others choose to have disdain for customers and do nothing but serve themselves. I choose to support the guys and companies who are on the first list. There are lots of cool pedals and gear out there that I won't ever buy or own just because I know and have read that the builder is a jackass.
I will be captain obvious and say something is definitely not right with the pedal. Either a cold solder point or 2 points touching together. Either way he should fix it. But I think in the end this thread will cost him more money than losing money on ONE pedal. Bad bidness.
There is a good chance that the annoying tone can be easily removed by injecting an out-of-phase version of the clock signal at the output side gain amplifier. Basically it would work like how a balanced line cancels out noise… differential rejection.
It might be worth asking the builder if this is something that can be added to this pedal.

thanks Matt. yeah, i don't trash builders. it's rare, but there are a few times i'd have liked an interaction with a builder to go a little differently. but it was nothing major. this is such a silly situation. if he's going to sell something and not stand behind it at all, i don't want anything to do with him.

same here. it's a crowded market, and goopers like Blue Whatever are few and far between. it DOES stand out to me when someone wants to run their business like this. we would never treat someone like this. happy customers = more business. plus, who wants to go through life as a ****?
totally. that's why before i spoke on any forum or did anything publicly i sent an audio clip to him and asked if that was normal. he said it was for his pedal. so...... yeah.
i have a friend that has a custom (clean blend added i think) 8 Bit Duck that he likes. he says there IS a carrier signal bleed through, but nowhere near as bad as this one. honestly, i wouldn't be happy with it with any audible bleed, i think that's just a lazy build, but i DID assume that it was broken at first.
hey FEA Frank! yeah, i've played BUNCHES of SRR's that don't have this problem at all. i'm sure there's a bunch of tricks and GOOD DESIGN that would fix the bleed. for $155 i kinda expected it to be a solid build. i know stuff gets damaged in transit, things happen. but i'm operating under the assumption that this is the product he was happy with shipping since that's..... lol...... kinda what he told me.
if it was any other builder i've ever bought from i'm sure the response would have been more along the lines of, "sorry that problem didn't come through in the demos, let me give you a refund" or "that shouldn't be that loud, send it back let me see what i can do" or SOMEthing that showed he cared about a happy customer after he go my money in his pocket.
the Refund Minus 30% is insulting. especially since none of that was listed on his site prior to all this going down.
YOU run a great business where you're always available, put so much effort into your designs before they're released that they're flawless and i've never heard a bad word about you. he should take his cues from examples set by builders like you.

Forget the demos. Just buy one while they are in stock! You ABSOLUTELY will not regret it, I promise. As far as SRR's go, it's hands down my favorite. Would go as far as to say the "best", at least in my opinion. In fact, I just bought a second one from Tom last week so that I can have one on my big board and one on my small board. Going to have Danno put a stomp friendly footswitch on one so I don't need a separate switch taking up the extra space on the little guy. Maybe do some sweet etch too. Maybe? What the f**k am I talking about... OF COURSE I'm going to have Dan etch it!

The excuse is that it's inherent to the design of an analog sample rate reduction pedal. Now while my Bug Crusher, which is similar, can get noisy as you blend in the wet signal, it does NOT have that constant carrier signal going without any instrument signal going through the pedal. So I would agree that unfortunately it's a faulty design if that is the way the 8-bit duck operates.
Oi, and for anyone looking for a simple SRR pedal, BugBrand uCrushers are in stock right now. They are fantastic. Noisy, but fantastic.
