Luck Duck doesn't give refunds, 8 Bit Duck is AWFUL

They are a little noisy. I have to admit but nothing like what ben is experiencing with that 8bit duck. I would say the noise is very tolerable considering the type of effect. Even my digital bit crushers were a little noisy. This being an analog SRR, I guess I just don't expect it to be dead silent.

I could see how that might be a deal breaker for some though. In my experience it is still extremely usable in both live and studio situations. Again though, that is based on the type of effect and how I'm using it. I find it really helps to clean up your left and right hand technique too. The SRR can amplify that residual noise that comes with sloppy playing - maybe not an issue for you but worth mentioning for those that are looking. Oh and I find there is no excess hiss or hum when it is not engaged. Hope that's helpful. Maybe it's best to wait for Ben's demo to see if he can capture the noise level. I just hope you don't miss those 6 pcs currently in stock. ;) Kidding... They've been there for a little over a week so it seems you'll be fine.

Oh, I should also add that it seems to not play nice with my IE Polytope in front of it. Creates a phasing sound in the background of the SRR. I have not tried it after the SRR yet but thought the effect I want would go detune, then SRR.

Anybody have any experience with a Poly and a Bugcrusher? Is it just me or the Poly setting I'm using? Hope I'm not hijacking this thread...

yeah, it's a way different thing. the Bug adds a bit of hiss to my signal, but the only time i think i've had carrier bleed through was my fault for chaining it with other digital stuff.

i got swamped yesterday, today's a pretty light day at work so i'll try to do a vidja for it after the Money Making Madness.

Any ideas as to how one might get rid of the noise reported for the bugcrusher and how might thsi compare to the frantabit...?( there are too many buttons on the franta for me, really...but maybe...) :).

If you put it on an isolated power supply (or PP2+ type isolation), it should help. It also seems quieter in different settings, but that's just the nature of the effect. The different settings will give you different levels of noise. I really don't think it's a lot, I just didn't want you to expect it to be dead silent. It's not like when you click it on you get a big pop and an ambient hum that drives you nuts. It's more of just a part of the sound of the effect. Like how a fuzz will be really touch sensitive and therefore give you some noise. Or a compressor will amplify any white noise you have in your signal chain when you're not playing. I could very well be wrong but I just expect at least a little noise with a SRR.

As for the comparison to the Franta... It's been too long since I tried them side by side and I just traded my frantabit away so I can't compare for you now. It too was a little noisy with the ring mod parameter at certain settings. I think that's normal given the effect though, some noise is part of the effect. Again, I could be wrong so someone jump in here to correct me if so. Ben has both still (I think) so maybe a comparison can be part of his forthcoming vidja.

so you mean that the unit itself does not generate that noise but picks up 'dirty' power lines?
I have no problem with 'some' noise-most pedals are not completely silent. :)

Sounds like the sampling clock from the A/D converter is feeding through into the signal path somehow.

Obviously, this isn't a normal thing, or you'd hear a high pitched whine in all digital audio.

This is almost certainly a case of poor PCB/wiring layout. Keeping digital-like signals from injecting noise into analog signal paths requires some though, which apparently wasn't done here. :(

And this might be "normal" for this particular model, as I'm assuming every copy of this pedal would have the same broken layout.

Definitely possible causation, but mfr. claims that it is entirely analog and that there is no AD/DA conversion taking place.

oog. sorry. been lagging. still going to try to get a Bug demo up soon. but going to see Bjork tonight (woooo!) so dunno if i'll have time till tomorrow.

on the plus side Luck Duck guy and i finally came to an agreement. he said he's worked out a way to get it quieter, offered to refund my money (full refund), and build me one of the new versions. i told him it was never about trying to bully him or get over on him, i appreciate the offer, but he doesn't have to send me a new pedal. just the refund. so that's hit me, i'm sending him back the (what he is now calling a) defective pedal tomorrow.

resolution GOOD.

soooooo.... huh. this guy is kinda strange.

i got an email from him a few days after the refund hit me, he asked that i take down any threads i had up and that YT vidja. because it could damage his business. i thought about it for a day, sent him an email saying i would archive the threads over on I Love Fuzz (ILF), talk to a mod about doing the same here, put the YT vid to private. he sent a thank you email.

while the ILF site owner was gearing up to archive stuff, an account, PeaceGuitar, was made. in the Human? Not A Bot? check spot, ILF's owner, Thom Dalton, has the question - "why are you here?". PeaceGuitar had written about how forum members on ILF were bullying a small business, lying, etc. would Dalton take down the SLANDER (noooot how the internet works) that was on his site, and please to ban the Behndy user that was instigating all the evil, unfair attacks.

Mssr. Dalton told him, (paraphrased) "no. it is user generated content. i read that thread, and it looks like Behndy is getting screwed over.". and then Dalton okayed his account. so PeaceGuitar went in to the main thread talking about this guy, where i had already said i was going to take down any damaging content, and insulted a bunch of people and wrote about how i was making stuff up and everybody must like me because they were ignoring facts to side with me.... and on.

then.... he made an account on ILF under the name LuckDuckPedals, that ILF Dalton shared was.... from the exact same ip address as PeaceGuitar.

... is where it comes out that he's making alts in forums. ILF DOES get a bit raunchy sometimes, so some of that content might be NSFW.

tl;dr - i had agreed to take down any content harmful to Luck Duck Pedals on the interwubs, LDP's owner made an alt on another forum and butt hurt attacked some friends and me, never mind taking anything down.

ugh. so WEIRD. he's an odd guy.
