Mackie DL1608 in the house!

I use my iPad 2 for my DL1608 and it is also used for "in bed surfing". I am going to get a new ipad soon though as iOS8 beats on it pretty well. Then the iPad2 will just hang with the Mackie. I have a gig where I am doing sound this Thurs so I need to read up on V3. I installed it, but it is a bit different from just taking a few moments to check it out.

Here's FAIR WARNING to those upgrading to V3. Yes, I do like the new interface/features once I figured it out and the upgrade completed (took a while). But...of course they upgraded the iphone "My Fader" too (I use that to walk around for overall volume and changing the volume of break music etc as well as letting everyone control their own monitor mix)....well...the iPhone kept saying to upgrade or it would not work.

Guess what? They DIDN'T release the iPhone version yet. So for now, if you upgrade "Master Fader" for the iPad, there is no app for the iPhone and you can't use it. FAIL.

Yikes. Did you try to reboot the iPad and the mixer? When I upgraded my OS, Fader Master, and the mixer's firmware, things were a little wanky the first couple times I used it but eventually everything was playing nice, both wired and wireless. I will say that on my iPad2, things are a bit boggy and slower than before.

Ug... Tonight my iPad couldn't see the 806 via the dock. I hooked up a router and connected wirelessly but of course that meant no break music. iPad 2 so 30 pin interface. Anyone else experience similar ?

This has happened to me too (not on V3 yet). Master fader is supposed to re-sync...and it didn't. The fix was to power cycle the mixer...but if you don't turn off your power amps/speakers first you are gonna get a pop.

I played with it tonight and what fixed mine was a power off / on cycle of the iPad. I'm thinking about leaving it in the powered off state as my default... I also dedicated an iPad 2. I haven't noticed things being boggy but I'm running an 806, not a 1608..

I've been looking at getting the DL1608. I'm not an Apple person. So... I'd like to thank you all for your logs of experiences and input on these little wonders. Now, I must ask your indulgence as I delve into this World of Digital mixers. I'll guarantee a butt load of questions will be spewing forth. I'm going to buy the Ipad first. I see that a 2nd Gen. will work but do I really want to just stay there or step up to a 3 or 4?

it would probably be worth skipping ahead, getting the 1608 lightning connector version, then getting a 4 or newer ipad or even an ipad mini.

(ipad 3's and back are 30-pin; also, there seems to be a weird thing on some ipad 3's, including mine , where the new MF3 system kinda acts bogged down on certain screens like the parametric EQ. it's still usable, but not as zippy and responsive as before. it's been suggested that the ipad 3 has not quite enough processor to run its super high pixel Retina screen, causing occasional issues.)

plus, if you're gonna get yourself an ipad, get one that kicks butt! a 2 will work the mixer fine, but not be as awesome surfing on the couch or watching movies on the plane.

At the time, for the relatively small difference in price, you can get a newer iPad with more horsepower. My ipad air from last year runs Master Fader without hint of lag. I use mine exclusively over wireless, and it's been flawless.

Ok. Bought Ipad 4-Check Updated OS-Check Download MF3.0- Check.

Hmm... seems nice. Made some Baseline snapshots. Switched from 31 band Eqs to Parametric on all outputs. Designated Mute Group 4 as an "All Mute". Now, how do you revert back to the Fader Screen from the Individual Channel Screen besides having to hit the upper left hand center button? Or is that the only way?

How many actually spent the $1000 for new? I'm seeing them for as cheap as $600 on Ebay, used.

I purchased my DL1608 on eBay as a "used" item. In reality, it looked like the dealer simply cut the seal and boxed it back up. I mean that in the best possible way - my mixer was essentially brand new when I received it. I paid 73% of the current MAP price by making an offer.

Also curious about the Apple Airport Express. Now, there is one unit that you stay away from? I do run a Line 6 wireless Relay 90.
don't know about that one specifically, but you want dual-band, so you can get 5GHz operation to stay out of the noisy 2.4GHz zone where everybody's cellphone (and your line 6 relay) all live.

I use an Airport Express. Mainly since it is small and works great. You can play music from your ipad/phone wireless with it, but you have to run the line out from the router to a channel/channels on the board. One thing to watch out for (how does this guy know? LOL) is that if you use an 1/8" to XLR mono sum cable, DO NOT have phantom power activated or you will blow up the output of the router (or in my case an iphone).

But...the Airport Express works very well and the size/lack of a power brick is a complete win!
