I see that Zounds has the 30 pin 806 at $499 and the 1608 at $799 this morning. I haven't really been watching but that seems pretty good pricing.

Mackie DL1608 in the house!

Tops... Purchased -I went with the JBL PRX712s. Waiting for the UPS guy... Researching Subs - In Progress(ish) but have pretty much decided on the matching PRX718XLf
I would stay in the same family and in JBL stick with the XLF. The smaller sub is gutless...
Excellent welcome to the new world order....You know I was playing in a band earlier this year. The band leaders 20 something son, fresh out of "sound school" whatever that means was mixing the band. I offered my system (mackie 1608) to use which they did. The son and I had an altercation and I was asked to finish out a few gigs and then leave. Which I did. So they went out and bought a new mixer. An Allen Heath 16 channel monster board. Don't get me wrong I have owned them and they are great. I asked the young guy why he didn't go digital and he said you should have faders. I only mention this in passing in that I found it odd some one so young wouldn't get it and embrace the new technology? Go Figures.
He's only regurgitating (sp?) what he was taught. *IF* the school had taught Digital, he'd have bought an X32? Based off what I have researched, that little box replaces all of my outboard gear plus some. Just a thought.
It's all here... FINALLY!!!! Got my PRX712s yesterday and the DL1608 today... 
I'll take them to the practice place tomorrow. Get them set up and do some "Practicing" with the DL1608/drums. Ought to be fun. Just to "Poll" the crowd, What would you use for monitors? Prx710s or the more of the 712s? Then, would you buy monitors or get the subs next? I'd like to stay with the JBLs. I'm one of those freaks that has to have all of my gear the same brand.

12's not 10's IMO. There is a certain sensibility to using the same family of powered speaks for monitors. If you can get away with it volume wise , a 712 on a stick behind the mains at each corner plus 1 or 2 in the middle sounds freakin' wonderful... Actually it's K10's on sticks and a K12 center fill in my case as I'm down to 1 612 which is already on the block.
The k10's kick way, way harder than the JBL 10's IME. The difference between the JBL 10 and 12 was pretty dramatic when I bought into the 612's... I thought the 10 was an answer looking for a question I wasn't asking...

For sure - getting yourself automatic with the interface of master fader should be your job 1. Trial by fire is not recommended. 
Now. when you say "Channel View" you're talking about the faders of all the channels or...? I've already got MF3. So, up in the Left Corner are 3 boxes. Are you talking the Center one or the Left most one?

Amen 1+ I'm the Bass player. I don't want the FOH Engineer's job BUT No One else in the group has the skills it takes to run it. Sure a couple of them might be able fumble their way through it but... yea, no.
I think it's the one with 1 slider showing but the truth is that without MF up in front of me, I'd be hard pressed to be certain. So left edge one or center in that group of three. Just get it on automatic... And yeah, the view that shows all the channels...
Oh yeah, the other thing... Do not ever disconnect the iPad from the dock while you are playing music through iTunes. Bad stuff happens... Like full channel volume white noise. Don't know if they nailed that down in 3.0 or not - not going to experiment and find out... It was unpleasant enough the first time...
I use a restaurant tray stand for the 806 and have it right next to me when mic'ing from stage. I actually handle quite a few adjustments during the evening. Surprising but it seems easier than on any analog board I mixed from stage with.

The ugly way... Dropped the vol at each speaker and sub, then killed the board. I might be inclined to just turn the board off next time and accept the thump... I did this in the comfort of my practice space so no patrons were abused in the course of my insanity.
Honestly at this point, I wonder why I thought it was a good idea. I know other folks have experienced the same but in retrospect - it makes no sense that the background music would switch over to wireless seemlessly. I'm kind of an IT/Mis/Programmer type during the day - a little more thought should have pointed out the foible...

Ok, an update...
As I've mentioned, I now have the Ipad (4th Gen.), the Mackie DL1608 and the Tops (Jbl PRX712m). I just ordered the Apple Airport Express. Ought to be here middle of next week or so.
I volunteered to do a friend's Poetry Reading thing just so I could get in a bit of time with the current setup before my band's first gig (end of Feb.). It'll be in the same Coffee House as the band will be playing, so that's a plus. That along side the fact it'll only be 1, maybe 2 mics and possibly some background/filler music. It's far away enough to get the Airport here and configured so I can do it wirelessly.
I'll keep y'all informed.

Another Update... According to the USPS Website, the Airport Express will be here tomorrow. I found one of those Grundorf type cases on Ebay for cheap should be here next week. I'll post some pics when I get to assemble it all.

Ok, another update. For those who'll care. I've got the DL1608 all set up in a case with the Airport Express. They are talking to each other and the Ipad, wirelessly. I am getting ready to hook up the "audio out" on the Airport into ch 16, for wireless broadcast for break music. Those JBL PRX 712s sound phenomenal w/o a sub! I may only buy 1 PRX718 (who knows with GAS). Anyhoo... I have a small poetry reading this Friday that I'll use the new setup for, just to familiarize myself how this beast operates before the band's first show later in Feb. So far, I AM NOT regretting spending all of this money and making the switch from my "traditional" Board > Eq > Xover > Amp > Speakers setup to the Digital Mackie DL1608 > Powered Speakers/Powered Monitors rig.
I'll continue to update as I go. For others who may want to foray into the Digital realm.
