Mad man shows up at practice -scary times!

It makes sense for him to say that he has PTSD to "explain" his rage. But also he may have PTSD AND been on drugs, you'd never know.

There's that, or he really could have PTSD and maybe other compounding psychiatric issues, or have decided to go off his meds. Who knows. It's probably best not to play amateur psychiatrist with someone like this. Let the cops know what's up and let the professionals do their job.

Yea I know, I was just giving insight into another possibility. A lot of people defending him saying that he's harmless because of PTSD, but I was just bringing up a possible more dangerous situation. Good for OP to consider all possibilities.

as a person who has seen the police escalate harmless situations into physical confrontations a few times I say don't call the cops if you can. they are not known to be the best with mental health issues since force is their first response to an aggressive person. I would contact VA first or any organization that deals with these issues first. they probably can't do much since you don't have a name or address besides said apartment building he may or may not live at.

I doubt the whole thing is made of barbed wire. It's usually only right at the top, to deter people from swinging over it.
It also sounds like the owner of the property could maybe add some razor wire.

The scary part about dealing with insane people is that you never know what they'll do.
I'm remembering how Chris Kyle died.

Maybe you found your new lead singer; it always takes a special kind of nutcase to be one. In LA in the early 90'a there was a metal band, Life Sex and Death, that had a supposed homeless guy for a frontman who looked like Elvis Costello on the skids. Of course, it was all a sham, the band bombed...

I'll tell you now, you have to deal with guys like that with extreme caution.

It's never a good idea at all to film or take photos of anyone, or do anything to antagonise him.

You need to sympathise with him and remain calm, if you act defensively or aggressively towards him, he's likely to react.

Avoid calling police in plain sight of him as this may antagonise him. The last thing you want is the police turning up and he does have a gun and goes nuts.

I would have called the police after he left to report it and let them know he is roaming the neighbourhood and might be dangerous or carrying a weapon. The fact he said he was a soldier would have the police out in force I could imagine.
