Mad Professor Bass OD???

Just placed my order for a Blueberry. Interested to see how this turns out

Yeah, I did this AM as well, just as soon as I got the email that they were in stock.

The only US internet store I saw them available was Mad Ape - from a google search anyway.

I'll be out of dodge when it gets here but looking forward to letting 'er rip when I get back.

'Bout time there Mad Professor..... :D

Yeah, mad ape and a seller on eBay. Mad ape only have 10 in stock, the eBay seller had 5.

+1... holding off on buying one till I see some reviews.

Thanks in advance to reviewers!

Agreed, same here. That video left me kind of luke warm about the MP version.

I'm still on the list for the BJFE version (I know, I know :rollno:... but I'm #4!), and I think Fromel is in final final stages of my custom overdrive (bass tuned Death is Gain / Shape EQ with a switch to swap the order). I'll wait for that along with reviews before deciding on the MP Blueberry.

5sg.

It's here. Different opamp chip. BBBOD uses the LM301; MP uses CA3130. Extra jfet (BF244A) in the MP, while the Honey Bee uses a J201. Green LEDs in the MP and Honey Bee; red LEDs the BBBOD. There are more caps in the MP circuit too...

Long story short is one my first and second glance, this is not a true BJFE BBBOD. It's a BJFE w/ a variance of parts to make a it a more usable machine.

With that said, it IS brighter than the BJFE. With the Nature down, it sounds like the Dark Driving, but only with the gain set low. There is a LOT of gain in the MP circuit.

Thank you very much for this detailed technical analysis. The demo I heard sounded indeed a lot brighter and not as good (to my ears) as the original.

I am a little surprised by the amount of modifications in the MP BBOD. I would have expected a more faithful re-creation of the original, particularly when the manufacturer is clearly wanting to capitalize (if not cash in) on the somewhat cult reputation of the original pedal.

I know this is commonly done in the pedal world but I see this as a bait and switch tactic. If the circuit and tone of a pedal is that different from the original why not use another name and create a whole new pedal?

The release of this pedal had me a little excited at the idea of being able to buy the tone of the original BBOD at a decent price. Now the excitement is gone and I am just disappointed or perhaps relieved not have to buy yet another distortion pedal.
