Mad Professor Bass OD???

I'm really surprised by how much gain this MPBBBOD has. It can't get quite as low gain as I hoped, but it gets fairly low. Its certainly an impressive pedal, but I still haven't formulated a full opinion about it. I relatively surprised how open and clear it is, but maintains the low end & can get relatively dark.

I also just got the DD in. I'm pretty impressed by it and it can get significantly darker & lower gain than the MPBBOD. But the internal trim pots are incredibly frustrating while adjusting it to my liking. I get that its supposed to be 'set & forget', but damned getting it set is annoying as I play a few different basses through a few different cabs depending on what I'm doing.

Every builder builds their pedals the way they feel is best, but I would love to see that particular one with those uber small knobs like the Blue Boy has. I'm still looking forward to hearing how it plays with the OC-2.

Friday is insane...possibly Saturday for an hour in the afternoon? I'm heading to Maine to see my daughter...we won't get to hang until Sunday though so I'm not in a huge rush up that day. I'll call you tomorrow.

OK, so finally I got my unit from Guitard who took receipt when I was gone last week.

The finish is really nice, and other than the boring LED its cool.

Yeah, the amount of gain is ridic, but I really like the tones at the lowish gain settings and low nature. First impresion def a keeper, where I have been thru alot of dirt pedals the past few years where first impression I knew I wouldn't keep it. The SFT was one of those. It sounded cool on the doom metal settings like youtube, but I don't play that stuff and I thought it sucked for everything else.

The MP BBBOD I think I'm def keeping. Looking forward to experimenting next.

I'll be collecting mine from the local Parcelforce Depot tomorrow.

Also got a practice tomorrow night so will be able to try it at volume along with the Angler that is coming in the same box.

Hopefully I like it and it can stay with all my other OD's :D

yea yea, I know. It just really irks me and I wanna piss and moan about it. :p

It sounds pretty mediocre after the mxr octave. I haven't tried it before though.

Haven't had that much time to fool with it. For sure, it'll totally rage, with all the knobs at noon when I first stomped on it started feeding back straight away....

Super high gain potential there...

Got to try the Mad Prof. "blueberry".....it sounds nothing like the original and it certainly doesn't have the same "feel". I'd still pay the $300 for the real Blueberry, which I used to own. Amazing pedal for what it does. With all of that said, the Mad Prof. "blueberry" is a very cool overdrive pedal, but it's very misleading for it to have that name.

Just finished rehearsal and my initial thoughts are that the MP Blueberry is s very nice pedal. Gets a really tubey OD sound, a little too warm perhaps especially with flats and an SVT 810. I could not really get a modern distorted sound out of it, but that's not what it was intended to do. Sounds very similar to my OxFuzz Bass actually. Overall I'm happy with the purchase, not as different from my othe ODs and fuzz as I had hoped but I have paid more for a lot worse. Is it a keeper? For now yes. I think it would make for a great studio pedal, but live in a very loud band it was hard for me to distinguish it from my OxFuzz and Sparkle Drive. Haven't really sat down and experimented with it but I don't see it being a very versatile pedal, the nature and drive controls are fairly subtle and its basically a one trick pony. But it does that trick very well. 7.5/10

I played it with a 4001 Ric with flats into a Matamp GT200.

Try roundwounds. It DEFINITELY would sound better w/ that setup!
