Mad Professor Bass OD???

It's not info about the Mad Professor Blueberry, but on a somewhat related note...

Well, I finally gave in to my inner gear whore. I emailed Custom Sounds and Jani replied this morning that I'm on the list for a BJFE Blueberry when Bjorn makes another batch. She said it's typically a 1-3 month wait, but wait time can vary since he makes pedals in batches and some pedals take longer than others.

Stupid G.A.S. :rollno: lol

If the Mad Professor BB is the right price, I'll pick one up and do a comparison. :bassist:

I thought Bjorn said he was retiring the Blueberry back in January, which was the whole reason that MP was gonna do their own bass OD.

I posted a wanted add for a BlueBerry and within about 3 or 4 weeks had an offer to sell. To be honest if you really want one of these that's the best way to do it. They are not so rare that you should have to wait a year for a used one to come up and the market price is still not far off what a new one will cost you (in fact its still a bit less). So yeah, I think it silly to wait a year if you really want one, cos they are out there. The last one I saw that came out of the factory wasn't even blueberry in colour!

I had "WTB: BJFE Blueberry" in my sig for quite a while with no luck, but yeah... posting in the WTB forum is probably what I'll end up doing. Not QUITE yet though, I've got a custom overdrive/EQ on order with John Fromel and have my name on the list for one of the next batch of Darkglass B3Ks.

Being on the list for a BJFE Blueberry is enough for now. ;)

Hey 5sg! I am most amused by your GAS! cool to have many options available anyways!

I haven't met anyone from MP, but I am looking forward to it. I have heard they are nice folks. The friend of a friend actually works there building pedals... And have some common friends with Harri... Finland is a small country, and the pedal industry is even smaller hehehe... so I could try to get a collegue visit. Will keep you guys posted if I eventually visit their headquarters someday :)

Regards

Doug.

I'm not exactly sure I'd use the word "amusing" to describe my G.A.S... it's more of a chronic disorder. :rollno: lol Course, I'm currently single, no kids, don't drink/smoke/do drugs, so I guess if GEAR is my drug of choice, things could be worse, right? :D I'm going to have to sell off some overdrives pretty soon... up to 7 now, just picked up a Subdecay Liquid Sunshine! :p

Back on the subject of Mad Professor... I posted on their Facebook page a couple weeks ago about the MP Blueberry and this was their reply this morning:

"Pcb Blueberry is coming, just finished the design."

So hopefully soon!

About a week or so ago, I posted on the "new MP thread" on the BJFE forum questions about the blueberry (will Bjorn ever make one again?) and the MP bass OD (when can we expect to be able to buy one?). I just checked the thread and so far, no response.

Well your post got me looking at the Darkglass stuff and I have decided to try a B3K and a Harmonic Booster to see how they compare the the BlueBerry. Given the potential slew of cool OD pedals on the board I may be able to have two boards - one for my E-C strung basses for chordal stuff and one for the B-G/C basses.

I can't wait to try it with the Blueberry. Its going to have to be pretty awesome to take on the Blueberry though. It honest is the nicest sounding OD I have heard for the broken up tube amp sound.

+1 - yeah from my experience, the Mad Professor pedals aren't ANY cheaper than the BJFE stuff. They're just made in much greater numbers so that there's little to no wait.

Yep. The MP Sweet Honey Overdrive is still over $300 to buy, so very close to the price of the BJFE Honey Bee (Supposedly the guitar version of the Blueberry AFAIK). The MP version also sounds different to its BJFE counterpart. Not necessarily in a bad way, it's just different.

Either way though, I'm sure the MP BOD will be a sweet pedal. Here's hoping anyway!

EDIT: Actually, to be fair, I just spotted the Sweet Honey OD (PCB version) on Tonefactor for $169.
