Mad Professor Bass OD???

All of the existing MP dirt pedals are $312.00 (@Tonefactor). I would guess the new Bass OD will be around there or even a little more. The BJFE pedal is about $350, so yeah, I'd say people won't be saving much coin on these, but at least they'll be more readily available.

Actually, your price estimate is closer to reality....I have seen sales where you can get into the $250.00ish range. The other observation I've had is that MP pedals don't generally hold their value like BJFE's. Since they are not built by Bjorn (Bjorn design), I guess that makes sense.

So, what the learning for me?

(1) If I were interested in a MP bass overdrive, I'd wait for a used one to pop-up and save a few bucks. or

(2) Buy a used BJFE BBBOD (the one OD everybody uses for comparisons) and be able to sell it for what I paid.

#2 is what I did and I love my BBBOD. That said, MP pedals are NOT the same as BJFE's, they generally have a few tweaks or differences. This is what intrigues me. I wonder what MP will do to differentiate the MP Bass OD from the BBBOD (besides gain) and what the impact will be.

I guess that's what we are all waiting for!! :D

What Bjorn said on his forum was that the main difference between his pedals and MP's is that he does a lot of creative hand-selection and matching of components, while MP will not (to save labor time and thus cost). Whether that's true or "the whole story", I have no idea.

Invalid Link Removed added the Mad Professor - Blueberry Bass Overdrive to the database. Available Summer 2010.

Mad Professor About The Prototype:
BlueBerry Bass Overdrive: old school tube-amplifier overdrive, super fat tone. With clever Nature control tones from smooth natural sounding overdrive to a fuzzy wild bass tone. This is very touch sensitive and likely the most dynamic of all MP pedals. Has a feel like playing vintage Amp...

The Blueberry is definitely my most anticipated pedal this year.

Very interesting... I've had a BlueBerry on my radar for quite a while, but it seems like they're really tough to find... order from Bjorn and get on a list (and who knows about wait) or find someone who has one and get dibs on theirs if they sell it (and who knows about wait). :hmm:

Looking forward to seeing/hearing the Mad Professor version... Hopefully "Summer 2010" means sooner than later. :)

I received an email from Harri Koski this morning...

"The bass OD should be ready later this year. Don't know the exact date yet, but I can keep you informed when it is ready."

So, I think that it's safe to assume that the summer release is not going to happen.
