hey, can one of your guys PM that gigmasters thing to me as well...?
My band has played 2 gigs in Madison so far, we played for free at Lucky's, and we played at the Brink earlier this month.
The brink is very nice, they have a good PA system, but be prepared to run it yourself. One of the bartenders set it up for us, but when we had sound problems later, he was nowhere to be found. We really want to get gigs at the High noon, the Annex, and the Terrace. (all three are tough to get into)
It's a shame that the King club closed down, and turned into a gay bar.....:scowl:

Gigmasters will not get you into any clubs, I'm nearly certain, only private gigs. Best thing is just go to gigmasters.com to check it out. Hey if any of you guys do sign up, please let them know you were referred by Whoz Playing? because I will get a slight discount off next year's membership if you do and it'd be appreciated. You should be able to tell if it's for you or not.
The new Frequency club is amazing. Great people, great sound. My band plays 60s and 70s soul, too, and we had a good turnout when we played there a couple weeks ago. We filled the place to capacity and were paid 100% of the door, but being an 11 piece band I didn't get a hell of a lot 
I've been meaning to come to one of your shows. Heard some good things about your group.
LOL!! There's only 5 of us but I expect the pay is rather porportional.

I'd like to come to one of your shows there, but I will be out of town for both your July shows at the Frequency.
My problem in getting down to see them is that they always seem to play week nights and don't start until quite late. That's tough when yer old and ya gotta get up the next day for a dull job.
Thanks for the comments, guys. I joined Thee Royalty at the end of March and it's been a complete blast to play with these guys. They're all amazing musicians and really great people, too.
I'm new to the Madison music scene -- I grew up and went to college in Texas, and moved here a few years ago to pursue a PhD. Finally last winter the PhD stuff had calmed down enough for me to find a band, and this opportunity knocked at just the right time.
The band plays all sorts of obscure soul stuff (I'm a HUGE fan of soul), and it blew my mind that they had been playing stuff off some of the weirdest albums in my collection.
Before I joined they had been playing at Cafe Montmartre on wednesdays, and I have no idea how they crammed that many people on stage. The frequency is a much better home for us I think. We've got two gigs in July and two in August on the books right now. After that we're going to try for a weekend show somewhere.
Anyway, I dug the frequency because the stage was an acceptable size, the onstage volume was actually pretty quiet and we could all hear each other wonderfully. Friends out in the crowd had nothing but positive things to say about the FOH sound. My first gig with the band was at the Brink, and that vaulted ceiling over the stage makes for some really weird acoustics -- I couldn't really hear myself.

I played at the Brink earlier this month and I thought it sounded really strange too. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but our sound was just kinda off.....
If you don't mind me asking, how did you find your band? Craigslist? Local ads?
PS (Does the Frequency have a sound system and someone to run it?)
Oddly enough, I found them on Craigslist. Everyone in the band is very well connected; I would've thought they'd find someone without resorting to CL, but I'm sure glad they did.
Yeah, the Frequency has a sound system, and there's a soundman on staff. We played there right before our organist's wedding, and he paid out of pocket to have a friend of his run sound. So I'm not sure how good the regular guy is.
I'm new to Madison, I know the big show is High Noon but where can my newly formed Country Band (think Waylon and Willie, not Garth and Toby) play?
Interesting coincidence that you came up from Texas - my son is a music student at UNT. Anyhoo, I had seen that the Royalty was looking for a bass player per a post on the Isthmus forum but had he been here I would've suggested he take the audition.
Our drummer's wife is a co-worker w/ your keyboard player and went down some months ago to check out the band. He had some very nice things to say about you guys but did say that our respective repretoire don't have much in common as your stuff is a little more off the beaten path and we're stickin to more well known classics.
We played at the Brinks and yea I was more than a little put off by the stage sound/volume, albeit everybody in the audience told us the mix was good (we used our own PA) and they all danced up a storm.
P.S. Curious what you're using for a rig w/ the Royalty?
The Dry Bean on Verona road does quite a bit of country, I believe. maybe Park Ponderosa in McFarland too?
I'd love to see a setlist of your material. I looked on your website but didn't see anything or I wouldn't ask.
