Like I said earlier on in this thread, these Big E Speakers are more like a horn-reflex cabinet, combined with " crossfiring" drivers.
Horn-reflex can easily be simulated with the program AJhorn. Horn-reflex is a bassreflex system with an expanding port/mouth, which can yield great results (as with most other systems when done right).
Horn-reflex has been used several times by other people
IMO there's nothing new here.

Reviving an older thread... but ok...
BigE speakers are neither reflex or horn or any combination of the two.

I can see from looking at the flares that you would think that. It's definitely not any type of horn or reflex. If you look at either you won't be able to get the low end extension we get.Or the dramatic increase in efficiency. Not efficiency measured at 500 to 1000 hz. Efficiency all the way down.

Regarding the data presented by Arjank and the replies from Doug Hart and Mike Arnpool:

Please google "Electro Voice T18". That is a design virtually identical to this and it was launched in the 80s, I believe.

Ok, what's going on inside these cabinets?
If there is any kind of labyrinth inside there(or not) it is still some kind of horn/reflex or TL/reflex or whatever you want to call it.
Either way, AJhorn is able to simulate it, this guy uses an algorithm that works for horns, bandpass, TL's, bassreflex.....

If Big E speakers created something completely new(which I doubt) then they may get the nobelprice for Acoustical Physics ;)
Edit: Big E Speakers definitely has to have a theoritical model for this else they can not design models with different sizes and drivers, if not, they had to build 100's of trial&error cabs to get this "extreme" efficiency working as described.
My 2 cents.

I will not argue which one of the enclosure types it is closest to, but EV themselves say:
"...loudspeaker system which combines the sttributes of both horn-loaded and vented-box designs. ... Vented box principles take over for the lowest octave and assist in producing exceptionally high levels of clean, punchy bass from a sub compact box."
(Quote from the T18 EDS at EV homepage.)

Looking at the pictures at the big e speakers homepage I see designs that are very similar (from the exterior) to the hybrid design of T18 etc.

Then it probably is more horn-reflex then horn, it's a gradual thing you know. Good to see that EV also has these Hybrids and that I'm not talkin' gibberish ;) The description tells exactly what is does and should do if it's horn-reflex.

The thing you noticed about the Big E Speakers is the thing that I thought already, it looks like horn-reflex(on the outside),and I think these speakers sort of give the same response in the low-end.
