Make me look metal

  • Watch the Lemmy documentary *at least* 5 times
  • Black Jeans with the crotch cut out so that the adoring fans can see your leopard skin banana hammock
  • Motorcycle Boots in Black (If you’re as metal as Lemmy, you can get them inlaid with pictures of your hat)
  • A Motorcycle jacket (even in 110 degree heat - taking it off for any reason is most definitely not metal)
  • No shirt
  • Brand a phoenix into your chest - Leave aforementioned motorcycle jacket unzipped so that the adoring fans can see it.
  • Get a leather version of your golf cap. Have a row of silver chains with alternating hand-carved silver skulls and real animal skulls for a ‘hair’ effect.
  • Fingerless gloves to help you grip and pluck your thunderstick.

Hey this is kinda fun... What's the next look we're going for?

Lose the Hat.
Lose the glasses.
Lose the baggy shirt.
Look into the audience instead of at your hand.
Look anywhere BUT at your hand.
Keep your feet apart. Dominate your part of the stage.
Keep your mouth open like you're yelling.
Fix your strap so that you can hold your bass more level, like youre curling it.
Pump some iron.
Dont fall for that "chucks" advice. Get leather boots.
+1 on the Leather boots Engineer steel toe are best

what do the other guys in the band wear (or plan to wear)? what kind of metal do you listen to? just dress how you think your heroes would dress while on tour. just don't overdo it, or you'll look like a doof. having some sweet arm tattoos help too...and you're skinny, you can rock the tight shirt/pants thing. use that to your advantage.

think like this: touring is all about wearing the same old t-shirt for like 3 days in a row, then washing it in a sink, and putting it back on.

most importantly, work the crowd. metal is in the energy and the music, not the clothes. that's why there are so many different looking metal bands

most importantly, work the crowd.
But don't work the crowd in unmetal ways. Metalheads are very sensitive to that kind of thing, and you absolutely cannot do any of the following without the risk of offending the audience:

grinding your hips
wiggerish arm movements
synchronized crab squats
any synchronized dance moves other than headbanging
rocking the mic
the robot
etc. etc. etc.

I say this with all seriousness and without trying to hurt any feelings but this is a joke right? How do you look metal? If you have ask how to look metal, you are not metal. Metal is a way of life, an attitude, a movement, its not a fashion statement. You can go to Hot Topic and "look metal" for about $100 of crappy clothing. Its all in your persona, the way to act, the person you are. This is not to be fake or try to be something you are not. If a jacket and funky hat is what you want your image to be, go for it. Thats who you are. Mighty Mighty Bosstones go with the full suit action and they are the big guns of the Ska Punk genre.

Play well, play loud, and play hard - That will be more metal then some store bought fresh black Metallica shirt and $90 stonewash jeans with $150 sneakers. I just show up at a show with whatever I had on that day. A pair of old cheap jeans with a Hooker Headers T-shirt or some Harley shirt or whatever, thats because I wear that everyday. Heck I can have a pair of shorts and a BMW t-shirt, who cares.

You are young and are trying to fit in. It does not matter what others think. Play your music and play it well. You never know, someone might say "That dude kills on the Bass and dresses snazzy" - That will be your identity, not something you are trying to create to blend in with others for the sake of "Looking Metal". Just be YOU.

Good luck to you dude and rock on!

^ Great advice on being Metal.... It is a way of Life......

This reminds me of a great quote...

"I want to be different, just like everyone else".

When I was young I was a nonconformist, now I want to nonconform to modern nonconformists because they have conformed into something that is no longer nonconformity.

Also, Skinny is by definition the look of rock. Wear tight dark clothing, and stop grooming you'll be on it. As a fat guy, I am envious.

SKINNY = EMO = GAY

Alright... where do we start... first off get rid of everything in that pic....

Shoes
A) really tall black leather boots that lace up or
B) Overly large shoes (got to get the ladies interested)

Pants
A) Tighter than skin tight black leather pants with a lace zipper
B) Multicolored striped baggy pants w/ suspenders

Shirt
A) Studded Black leather vest (no shirt under it)
B) Plain white button up shirt

Makeup
A) Full white with black "wings" coming from your eyes
B) Full white with a frown drawn over

Wait wait wait... you said metal... I was thinking you were going for clown (no real hatred for Gene... just funny thought =D)

But as stated... you make your own metal look... and when someone says something about it stomp their teeth in.... instant metal cred right there

Camouflage cargo pants (bought from Walmart or Goodwill) + Jungle boots + Black band T-shirt + Unwashed hair = Metal.

Kutte, spiked armbands, and sunglasses (at night) optional...

With your thing, though, I'd opt for torn up bluejeans and a DRI shirt with some hightop sneakers
