Rough sanded the top down, comes off nice and easy compared to a thicker modern finish.
You know what else might be neat? One of those super old-timey Gibson two tone mando finishes. I always thought the white and red was kind of neat. I think I have all the stuff to make a reasonable go of that.

You know what’s kind of funny? I was looking at binding, and tried to find a black/white strip. In the US you can buy black and white and a stewmac binding laminator, but I can’t find any American source for premade black and white binding. You have to make your own. In England and Australia you can find tons of sources. Weird! I found one single source, but it’s a retro nitrocellulose binding, and I don’t want that, mostly because you have to pay a $37 hazardous materials fee just to get a single strip delivered.
Might be experimenting with wood binding. Or no binding. Have to let the exploratory committee finish it’s work.

Oh man, we have three kids ages 9, 6, and 4, and they take up most of my time. My wife works the weekend track as a nurse, so Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon I am a single parent. Luckily my kids are mostly very well behaved, so I can tow them along to my weekend repair classes. When the youngest goes to bed and the older two are in the bath I run to my back room and take a few minutes here and there.
We don’t let them use their iPods during the week, but on the weekend they can play video games (roblox). As soon as they get on I have an hour or more of uninterrupted working time. I also stay up way later than I should on weekends to work on instruments and my little workshop.
I know I will miss this time when it is gone, but it is tough to balance personal time at all most weeks. Any time-intensive tasks have to wait until the weekend, but throwing on a test coat of paint doesn’t eat up much time.
Thank you for the compliment btw, I went and complained after you said something nice!! I can only speak for myself, but comments like that, giving the ol’ attaboy, really inspire me to keep on it. As a master procrastinator I need all the help I can get!

Agreed.
I was never a fan of red, then it grew on me in the last decade or so. But is has to be cut and mellowed out with something.
Yeah, the mando color has a brown tone to it I haven’t fully captured yet. I don’t want to go too crazy over it, I think that 50/50 mix is pretty close, and I think it will look really nice on the instrument. That white top is what is really going to pop.
