Markbass Megathread PART 2

So, if I want to use my RavenLabs blender for upright bass
instead of the MB preamp, I can do it by switching the
effects loop to series?? Will the MB eq still be effecting the
tone of the head, or will I just be able to use the RavenLabs
or Sansamp for my tone?
I would ask this privately, but I figure there have to be others
like me who just don't quite understand the difference, and
I'll be the dolt who asks the question.

or you could just run through the preamp with the controls flat.

Cute photochops, but many of us use the EQ and not the filters...I started by using the filters then more and more start flat and tweak the EQ in little increments until I find what I like. I've come to use the VPF less and less. I use the VLE to remove some squeak from the strings on my reggae gig, but not much else.

Here's a question:
I have a LMII and 102P Traveler cab (8ohms) and a Reverend 5-string and I'll be needing more volume soon (bigger gigs in th offing).
Has anyone tried stacking two 102P cabs vertically - or maybe a 1x15 would work better? (Ok this is on a slightly larger scale, but I'm sure I read about the Grateful Dead's PA rig using very tall, vertically stacked speakers and the low end projection was amazing...or perhaps I'm going mad?!?!) I'm thinking the 2 x 102P cabs would give me the projection and extra volume (with the LMII putting out it's full 500watts)...and look nuts too..!

There is no way input into this amp past the EQ. Or put another way, this amp can not be used strictly/specifically as a power amp.

Again, the efx loop is ALWAYS before the EQ, so whatever you plug into the return, regardless of series/parallel, goes thru the tone/filters.

This amp was very strictly designed to be used as a full integrated amp head. It's very very limited when it comes to "patching" like you're talking about. Square peg, round hole, dude. :)

It's a great amp, it's just got a very targeted design (which is part of the reason it's price is so nice... it's not trying to be everything to everyone).

I think I've got it now. Thanks.

Ive seen your answer above but just wondering, you can set the EQ flat cant you? and filters off. wouldn't that give you almost the same thing?

Not really, but it depends on how particular you are to say how much it would matter.

Every preamp... even with its tone controls "flat" still has a voice. So if you're really looking for a straight up amplification system, and especially if you're particular about preserving what you feed into it as faithfully as possible, you simply won't get it this way.

Plus, you have a extra gain stages you wouldn't normally have, which may or may not alter tone noticeably, but even if not, they introduce unnecessary noise.

How significant all this is depends on the amp design and the discrimination of the listener.

Of course there are ways the LMII could be used this way, but again, square peg, round hole. Not using the right tool for the job. But if it works well enough for you, then that's moot and all's well. :)

Totaly understand Vic, i just meant that its possible (and passible) to use a Sanamp to control the tone by going in to the FX return. Like you said, it will do the job, just not in the best way.

Oh, ok. Sorry about the confusion. Of course we agree.

BTW, I just noticed your gear list... very very cool, and you should have a new friend request now as well... :D
