Markbass Megathread PART 2

The lifetime warranty comes with the amp because All markbass comes with a warranty through the company. Only problem is you gotta pay for shipping to italy. However if you buy through GC then they will fix the amp right there. So it saves having to ship your amp to Italy to get fixed.

This info is very, very wrong. The Warranty you get with your Markbass Product is through Guitar Center themselves, or should I say a warranty firm that they have contracted. Guitar Center doesn't fix the amp, the amp is sent to a repair shop on the east coast that is contracted and liscenced to do the repairs for markbass. This has all been widely covered and documented here on talkbass.

edit: I believe this is the thread that details someone's actual experience with dealing with the warranty: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=366996

+1 GC uses a technical repair facility in the Massachussets area. If there is a warranty/repair issue, the Markbass amp will be sent out to that location for repair. I know this 1st hand. They are very, very good too. :D

Whoa easy Mr. Know-it-all over there...

I personally watched the the guys at GC fix my amp when i had a short in one of the wires. Yea no shipping out I actually stood there while they fixed it (it was one of my friends @ GC) but thats not to say its the same everywhere. I was just speaking from my own personal experience here in Cali, I don't know how things are done over there in the east coast. But the warranty is through GC and at NO extra cost, only because Markbass comes with it. I only had the one issue with my markbass and thats only because it was a floor model i believe.

Hmmm...no offense, but I would not have a warm and fuzzy feeling with someone at GC opening it up and doing any repair work. I would prefer it be sent to the designated repair facility.

I guess if they screwed it up, they would get you another one. At least I hope they would.

Glad it worked out for you...:)

well luckily the guy was an engineer and knew him personally. Secondly it was a "minor" fix....I guess if it was a big problem then it might shipped out. However my buddy at GC that fixed my amp was telling me all they have to do is order whatever parts and they could fix it there. I guess the Key part is making sure someone knowledgeable is doing the work. Lucky for me because i couldn't be without my markbass for too long

Actually, he's right. Actual repair IS supposed to be handled by a third party on this warranty... it's "sold" by GC, but is serviced by another company. The fact that GC fixed your amp on site is cool/convenient, but ironically, potentially a warranty violation. :)

Then again, of course as mentioned they could also replace it if need be. :D

Unless I'm mistaken, Guitar Center's repair people in their stores are not certified to make the warranty repairs, only the repair center in Mass is certified in this country. Did you follow the warranty procedure at all or just take it in to guitar center? I doubt that any repairs made by guitar center staff is actually covered and protected by the actual warranty.

Any yeah, I can be mister know-it-all on this because I've read each and every thread here about people following this proper warranty procedure, and have had personal correspondance with Peter Murray from markbass and his contact with Guitar Center head office. I spoke to both of them at length about how the warranty is supposed to work, and whether or not it is transferable.

+1. You beat me to it.

Word......that may be true however it got fixed in about 30 minutes and for free and haven't had any problems since. So im not complaining. Trying to get a new markbass out here in the middle of the valley would have taken a while, and getting it sent off to get fixed would have taken a while as well. since it was a quick fix i opted to go the quick and easy route....

And that's fine, and I'm glad it worked out for you. However, if there ever is a problem where it needed to be sent off to the certified repair center, and if they notice that someone other than them has been messing around inside there, they can potentially deny your warranty claim.

And also, the original info that you posted it wrong. You don't have to ship it to Italy to get it fixed. The warranty includes the shipping costs to the certified repair center which I guess is in MA. In fact, they'll even pay to have it properly packed at UPS so that there is no concerns about shipping or insurance claims for damage from shipping.

alright.....Well i was given a few options that day.
A. wait to get new amp (becuase mine was a floor model and thus discounted :smug:)
B. Wait to get it fixed while shipped out for repair
C. get if fixed right there in 30 minutes and for free.

I obviously choose the last option and guess not everyone may agree. However i got to watch him fix it and it was just was a wire that needed to be resoldered. And considering the work done (because i saw it myself!!) i highly doubt anyone would notice the work done.

...In the end It works great and was FREE...

maybe not company protocol but to me the best way to go since i was playing that weekend.

I posted this in another thread, but I got to play through the Jeff Berlin Combo and the Minimark yesterday and was impressed by both. 150 watts or 250 with an extension (not sure what the ideal extension cab would be). The Minimark is fairly loud and handles a B decently enough. For an upright or Rob Allen or Turner type instrument I think this would be great.

On the Berlin combo, you really don't miss the tweeter. Harmonics still ring nicely and the slap sound is decent. Its not overly boomy either, I think this is do to it being a relatively smaller enclosure for a 15" driver.

Minimark $829
Berling Combo $1099

Yes. :)

Just do your best to acquire the proper paperwork from the original owner, like the original sales receipt, warranty paper work from guitar center, etc.

I know others have posted the same question, but all I received was a sales receipt. I purchased mine back in August and I have not seen any official warranty paper work? Is this something I should expect?

The receipt is all you need. The warranty paperwork is something that GC sends into Markbass.

Right, however I did recieve paperwork from Guitar Center a few weeks after I purchased my new one that has all the info on it as well as instructions to follow in the event that I need to use the warranty. You should have recieved this paperwork if you bought a new markbass unit from a Guitar Center within 3-4 weeks after you initially purchased it.

I recently joined the growing group of Markbass owners. After a ton of searching and reading on TB, and doing some real world testing, I bought a Little Mark II to pair with my Avatar 212 Neo.

And I couldn't be happier. :hyper:

I could go on and on, but I think everyone here already knows how fantastic these heads sound. The only problem is now I want a new cab(s)!

Thanks to everyone here for sharing their insights and to Markbass!
