Markbass Megathread PART 2

Ostensibly this is still a MarkBass megathread topic, I guess since I want to get the best possible rig I can given an SA450 (essentially an LMII with some bells and whistles) as a starting point.

So with that in mind I have read all your posts regarding MB/Schro/Epi gear, KJung, and have been really glad to have so much to read and muse on.

So money where your mouth is chap. Say you could afford 1 cab to go with your LMII that had to do it all, and last for ever, and fit in a family car (no hatchback access either, its a 10 yr old BMW 3 series), sound fantastic, and always be heard by you and everyone else on stage and in the venue (maybe as much as a 3 or 4 hundred capacity crowd here). What would it be?

Oh and I like it pretty clean, and punchy as hell, although I want more depth (and volume if physically possible) than I get with my 2 very punchy 4x10's....

I would go with either the EA NL212 or CXL112, whichever your bass prefers IMHO.

i went in to GC yesterday to play my new lakland through some markbass gear (mostly the 1x12 combo and a LMII through a 2x10 cab), and i couldnt believ that there is already a digital "mini" version of the LMII. essentially the same amp design, eq and power but half the size and weight and 250 dollars more expensive....any thoguhts on this? i dont really care for it as i find the LMII to already be impressively portable...maybe MB is tryignt o compete with the AI market as well...

either way, everything sounded great as you all know. the staff and other customers all loved the sound of my lakland through everything as well!

See my F1 thread that is just a few threads below this one:D It's more of a mini version of the SD800, not the LMII.

No way on the 410UL, that takes an SUV or van to move easily. The Schroeder 410L and 21012L are both only about 16" deep, and will fit into the back of most cars. While I like the 21012L, the newest version of the 410L is pretty killer, but again, the mids are quite pronounced. It will be WAY louder than the 310UL (I or II), but not quite as even, full, and 'pretty' sounding. If your main goal is as loud and small as you can get (i.e., large, loud venue playing with limited PA support), then the 410L is the only cab I can think of that is lightweight and that would fit in the back of a mid sized car. The new Bergantino HS410 is about the same size, but 35 pounds heavier, but would be even more killer than the 410L, based on my experience with Jim's wonderful tweeters and crossovers. IMO.

Edit: Have you considered two of the Bergantino HS210's.... they would fit nicely, and give you '410UL' volume in at least a modular package.

They are pretty expensive @ about £505 each though, thats on the edge of what i can go for i think....

I have found that this works best for me so far.

Some complain about the LMII not having a mute switch, but I dont find this a problem. That's a Korg D-10.

Taking it out of the briefcase is a breeze. Nice and light.

I have attached my LMII to a piece of 1/4 inch plywood. I then used some molding and black duct tape to dress up the edges a bit. I used a black chunk of plastic to mount the stuff in the back. I found this easier than mounting directly to the plywood. Tuner, power cord & 2 foot patch cable from the amp to the cab and I'm good to go. I attached the tuner with rubber bands so that I can get it out to change the battery when needed. Then I bought a simple kitchen cabinet door handle & added that to the mix. The reason for this is that the handle gives you something to grab onto when you pull the unit out of the briefcase. Currently I slip a couple pieces of foam around the amp for protection, but I want to add more.

The materials cost me less than $5. I bought the briefcase for 0.25 at a yard sale.

With my rig designed this way, I can set-up in less than 3 minutes. Works for me!:cool:

Cool setup.
Does the back of your LMII say "600 Watts" or "500 watts"? The tuner is blocking that line. I'm curious because my 121P combo head says "600 watts". It's listed everywhere as it should be "500 watts".

Cool, thanks. I am curious because I bought the model off the floor and it clearly says "600 watts". They ordered me a "new in box" one to swap when it came in, but I wasn't sure if they all said 600. Maybe I'll just keep the one I have if it's any different. I suppose this goes for all LMII and CMD 121P. Does anyone else have one that says "600 watts"?

I did a pretty good job of that last night with the SD800 and a UL210S1(8 ohm). It was one of those 'stage over the bar' gigs with LOTS of stairs involved! Total rig weight: 45 lbs....450 watts....2-10s....kept up with the drummer 'no problem'. Had PA support for sure but I couldn't have gotten the UL410 up those stairs! Thank you Nick and Marco!
