Markbass Megathread PART 2

I will add one "frustrated comment". :) The SA-450 is basically the same thing as an LMII, and has an adjustable DI that can be up to 2.5x hotter than the LMII, which would be more than enough, but last I heard, GC has no plans to import that one, so if you get one (such as from Canada), there's no warranty at all.

Hey Vic,
According to the Club Bass website (Invalid Link Removed, Markbass products are warranted for 3 years from the date of purchase.

Peter! Peter! Peter!
You've just made me a very happy bass player!
I could have sworn you told me the 500 would be sold
here instead of the 450. I've never been so happy to be
wrong.
Not to be pessimistic but the "by the end of the year"
probably means next spring, but I don't care. I'll wait for it.
Oh I will wait for it. Thanks

Did you notice my careful words "we are hoping to get the SA450 into the US by the end of the year."?
There's no promise in there! We're doing all we can, but believe me there are a lot of variables and I've learned that you TalkBass guys put these dates in your calendars! ;)
Feel free to check in with me for updates.

not exactly true. The effects send is after the buffered input and gain control so arguably it's different than a plain DI box.
If the DI box is not also a line driver, this is true, but I was trying to eliminate that by referring to an "active DI box/line driver".

Let me put it another way. If you connect the LMII this way, all it is is just a straight line driver. There are pocket-sized boxes that do exactly the same thing. IMHO, if you're not using the LMII to get the LMII sound, if all you want is a straight signal booster, why not just carry the smaller box around?

Ok, so out of sheer boredom and morbid curiosity I plotted that the total to ship to Italy and back using USPS to ship it to Italy and for Posteitaliane to send it back, it would be around $100. To actually ship it to Canada and have them handle I'd be seriously hurting by about $200 more or so.

To be honest, I don't think $100 is terrible. I could think of worse, like $300 to replace a dead bulb in an LCD HDTV. So unless my SA-450 is a dud out of the box, I don't think I have too much to worry about.

Yes, but how is that warranty executed? THAT's the problem! I'm pretty sure that's from the factory only, which means I gotta' send that sucker all the way to Italy and back if something dies on it. IMHO, that's not really viable, which is what I meant by "no warranty at all". I should've said "for all practical purposes".

Hey Pete... clarify something for me.
Isn't the SA450's power supply different from the LMII. I thought it's the same as the SD800 but less power. Is this correct? I did not care for the SD800 but I love my LMII.
TIA.

No, the SD800 is digital where as the LMII, LMK and SA450 (to name but three) arent.

I believe the F1 is closer to the SD800's power section.

Point well taken Vic. Let's not forget the turnaround time it would take if we're trying to save money in shipping. Most of the methods are 1-2 weeks! I've been pretty fortunate never having to have any gear repaired ever. Let's hope I continue this tradition.

+1

I forgot about turnaround time. For me, that wouldn't kill me 'cause I have other amps to use, but for others, yeah, that could be a real big deal.

Bleh, i've had my LMII since last Thursday but I haven't really had the opportunity to put it through it's paces... I currently have less-than-ideal cabinets that don't evenly and smoothly get louder across the frequency spectrum as I turn up the output volume. But at low volumes, I am getting some very beautiful tones... Even my reissue Rivoli with it's crappy and malfunctioning pickup sounded so nice before I took it apart last night... Hell even my Hondo Rick copy sounds as clear and smooth as silk... But very soon I'll have a Berg HT210 to get louder with...

Peter
The problem with you guys is that bassists are loving your
products and buying them faster than you can deal with at
the moment. For some of us, its a matter of.... Once I know
what I want, I want it NOW!
Thank you for being so accessible. I'm sure you don't have
enough hours in the day as it is, let alone dealing with us
idiots on TB. If I weren't married, I'd be all over you. (maybe)
