Market input for D.I. outputs

Problem: the 1/4" pre out is way too hot. It clips the preamp on my head. It's hot enough to drive a power amp. IMO, the 1/4" pre out needs to be "instrument level". And I don't need the dry pass switch. It makes no sense to me.

Are you balancing the levels between the input and the gain?

One of the things I love the most about the Space Heater circuit is the ability to find that perfect balance by turning up the gain while turning down the level to get the exact tone I need for each instance. Which seems counterintuitive to my class D amp, where I set the gain just below clipping and use the master volume after that.

As far as the “hotness” of the circuit, I think it’s perfect because I drive amps with it frequently. When I go into a more standard style amp, I just follow the recipe above and maintain the inverse ratio of gain to level.
 
Have you considered using a locking knob on a pot for the XLR out ?
You set it with the FOH and then lock in the setting, the knobs cost a bit more but whats a few $ for something you buy once and can use a lifetime ?
I would go for a knob that can be locked, you can't accidentally change it.
I'm using a small potentiometer with no knob, mounted on the side of the pedal to avoid accidental bumping. I haven't gigged with this configuration, but based on my tests you won't adjust the XLR level unless you're really trying to.

I don't have units in hand yet, but this is a mockup I did on the concept. Switch in the roughly cut slot is ground lift.

Don't forget to put a little paint in the slot on that pot, the bosses nail polish works good as long as she doesn't know.
That switch slot is is not rough, if its on the floor no one will think it's done by hand.
I don't think I could do better with a mill.
The slot on the actual units will be CNC milled, this was just thrown together as proof of concept on a drill press. I'm looking at another style of pot that has a painted indicator, I just need to make sure the shaft is long enough to reach outside the wall of the enclosure. That's still up in the air, but the boards were designed to handle either.

If you don't want to order a bunch of different length pots I'll send you some. Mouser sent me some that were too short and just let me keep them rather than sending them back. I think they range from 6-12mm maybe?
