I've gotten in plenty of arguments with people here and elsewhere about this. I've been accused of reverse gear snobbery, but that isn't the case. I just don't give a rodent's anus about what brand is on a pedal, or about the looks/artwork. I've owned pedals by boutique makers and massive companys, at almost every price range. I have a $350 pedal on my board right now, next to a $30 behringer, and I see no disconnect there. I have extremely specific wants/needs in every effect type, so it took quite a search to find the right thing. But sometimes the "right sound" can come from a major-brand cheapo. If a pedal does exactly what I want it to, who cares what brand it is? The whole uniqueness/no-one-else-has-one factor makes no sense to me at all. Why care?
First the Distortron: Not a bad pedal. A little bland sounding to be completely honest. Also the pots were all really scratchy. I'm fairly sure that was only a problem with that unit though.
I just read saw this post up on page one again. Looked at the title and didn't remember that I'd started the thread. I come inside to see a statement I made a month ago while I was half high on cold medicine being criticized.
I understand that how a pedal sounds in the mix is more important than how it sounds soloed.
I understand that none of those pedals really boutique.
I understand the concept of the Crackle Okay knobs.
I'm not trying to tell anyone to buy anything.
Trust me. I'd be out there getting my effects custom designed by God himself and hand-wired by a talking panda if I had the money to get the sound I wanted, if I had the money. I'm poor. I'm in several bands. I need a lot of different sounds. I should've mentioned that when I was trying out those pedals I was looking for something that good soloed, because in my new project it'll be me playing without much other instrumentation. Have fun bashing the OP some more as I've realized nobody reads anythign past the first page before adding their opinion.
Hey well at least now you get it, you should be thanking everyone who set you straight.![]()
