The young French virtuoso has the Jazz Bass bug like so many of us!
Not just a jazz bug... A Jabba bug. Once you play a Jabba it's hard to play any other jazz bass.
Since I am a Jabba virgin, I will have to take the word of an experienced "player" like you!
The two Mayones Jabba (overgifted) brothers...
I LOVED that clip. They were flying all over that Stevie Wonder song. Wonder's songs are natural standard material for Jazz Musicians in a way that so many rock and roll era songs are not. I am happy they sounded like they were playing Jazzes with both pickups on. I love Jaco tone, but a soloist can be heard with a full throated tone too.
Saw him tonight with Hiromi. Wasn't playing that bass - was playing one that looked like the older Smith style body. Sounded great, and very different trio with him rather than Anthony Jackson.
Many (including me) consider Stevie Wonder as the greatest song composer of the last 50 years. I just cannot count the hits he scored, and as you say, many of them fit very well in a jazz band repertoire.

talk about drummer with too much stuff. who's on kit? why the roto toms? was there an 80's tribute section of the night that warranted that kit? FFS when i lived in LA i went to that club, that stage is not big.
Bass looks gorgeous, love that stain.
I don't speak French, so I don't know what a Mayone Jabba Freud is ... but those guys can play, and I love mayonnaise.
I believe the Ken Smith is his 'signature' bass as well......when I saw his sig Jabba coming out I wondered what had happened with the Smith deal but based on @nostatic's pic he's still using it. Hhhmmmmm....
