Just posted my Cali 4 in the classifieds for those looking for a mini Mayones companion

So I went right to the sauce and asked the Lads and here is the answer…
Hi Scott,

thanks for reaching out.

The name of the company comes back from early 80s.
Just before the brand was fully legally formed, the owners of the company had a friend and co-worker nicknamed ‘Mayonnaise’ - simply because added Mayonnaise onto virtually everything he ate.

When they decided to legalize the company that was the name they set on with just a different spelling.

So in the end it is a bit of an inside joke, which stuck for 40 years, as no-one could expect how much the company will grow internationally :)

Cheers,
Matt

As yours sold so quickly Barticus , before I could pounce I snagged this one from Truetone in Ca. Who gave me a deal I could not refuse. It just arrived today and it’s absolutely incredible.

Wow that looks incredible, congrats. They are absolutely works of art, as if little artisan model builders have crafted them… So very precise.

That Wenge/Padauk neck looks great, very cool little bass!

I guess I'm joining the Club. This Viking 5 arrived today (pics by seller).
I hope it's OK to ask questions on this forum, I'm not a club member yet. I love your Viking and I've seen a few people mention that the body is larger. I was wondering larger than what? Would you be able to give me some sort of comparison to a bass sold in the US as far as body size? I've been looking at the Viking V4, in hopes that it would be easier to play with nerve damage and Arthritis. I wish there was stores in the US that carried Mayones basses in stock so I could try one out. I rolled the dice on ordering my Sandberg and am very happy with it. I need to sell a couple of my other basses before I can order one, so I'm trying to find out as much as I can. Any help would be much appreciated.

The Viking is larger than the Mayones Slogan and I believe also the Patriot. The Slogan is very compact and sleek. That's why I chose the Slogan.

There are several dealers in the US that carry Mayones basses, where are you located?

Here’s a comparison of my Patriot, Thumb and Corvette so you can see the size of body. The back of the body for both the Patriot and the Thumb are curved or scalloped and are super comfortable to wear on a strap.

Thanks for trying to answer me, but I have no reference of size of any Mayones basses. I was hoping for comparisons to Fender, Rickenbacker and other basses that are big in the US. Like I would describe my Sanberg is shaped just like a Jazz but is has a little smaller body size.

All good. :)

Sorry I couldn't be more help. If I had the Viking, I could take a picture next to the Slogan and Rickenbacker & Precision.

FWIW, The "larger than" reference with respect to the Viking IS in relation to the other Mayones basses such as the slogan. When I ordered my Slogan, it was sight unseen from an authorized Mayones Dealer. They steered me away from the Viking because I wanted Smaller & Sleeker...

I know it still won't be completely answer your question but, If you'd like, I'll gladly take pics of the Slogan next to Rickenbackers and Precisions.

The body of my Patriot is 14 inches high and 21 inches long. I’m sure you can figure that out compared to one of your FSO basses.

The big reason for my interest in the Viking V-4 is the 32" -34" scale fan fret which is smaller and would help me a lot.
