How are these basses not more popular in the US?!! 
After hours and hours of playing this over the last 4 days, this is easily one of the best playing necks I have ever owned (compared with my Warwicks, Maruszczyk, Skjold, and others). It’s as narrow and thin as my custom Thumb and the Wenge neck and fingerboard feel and sound fantastic… I prefer narrower string spacing and since the neck is narrow, it doesn’t feel like 18mm, it feels tighter. It’s snappy and punchy with very fast and low action after my setup with no buzzing and just effortless to play… chords are clear and articulate and harmonics just ring out all over the neck! Oh, and the B sounds like a piano.
I’m also impressed with the build quality, this is a fantastic instrument from the woods selected, the workmanship and the electronics. I’m now wondering what a Patriot MR semi hollow fretless with piezo might sound like?!

I came across this really cool Mayones factory tour video yesterday, cool video.

I should have updated this when I received the Patriot, it didn’t have the Piezo bridge, the seller thought the tone knob was a PiezoIt’s nice to see some really familiar names in here from some of my other frequently visited owner club threads
Well, I’m waiting on my entry to show up so I can fully join in here. I’m super excited since it has an Aguilar OBP-3 with DCBs and the killer feature is it has the Piezo bridge! Hopefully it’ll be here by Friday, for a fantastic News Year’s eve.

Never the less, love this bass and playing it over all others now and have bonded with it quickly… band mates also love the look and the tones I’m getting, truly a keeper.
Initial thoughts on the Viking are positive. I like the neck and there’s plenty of variety in tone. It works well in both active and passive mode. Playing a 5 string is new to me so there’s an adjustment going on there, but this appears to be an excellent bass to move from 4 to 5. Weight seems reasonable (I haven’t weighed it yet) and it hangs on a strap real nice. The body lays comfortably on me. I’m getting used to the control layout. I’ve only played it about 1.5 hours, so this is a preliminary review. Quality piece, for sure!
Anyone know what the factory strung the 5s up with? The site says 44-128 gauge. The only commercial set I know of in that gauge is GHS’s pressure wound set. Any idea? Thanks!

I have not attempted to run them down, I looked at them but noticed they don't use a tapered B and that is a must for me to get super low action on the B string. I actually play Skjold hybrid nickel/steel strings (40-125) as they have amazing tone and really nice tension, not to tight and not loose. I do bend and play pretty percussively and have found these strings really work for me, so I have them on all of my 5 string basses (I only play 5s and have 1 6'er). So that was the first thing I did when I received the bass, was a full setup for action/intonation and a new set of hybrids. The action is super low and buzz free and sound really great on my Patriot.

Do the XL's have a tapered B?
I haven't tried them on a bass yet, I have NYXL's on all of my guitars though and love them.
I have D’Addarios on mine but I’m not sure they were factory loaded. They seem pretty OK though. I’ll have to mic them to check the gauge.
Thanks that’s good to know, I would be up for trying a set of those my next time around if I can find a light gauge set.
