Hi there. Just wanted to bump this thread and ask everyone about the Mayones branded strings. I see they have short ones for the little Cali basses and long scale for the regular ones. Does anyone have any experience with them? I'm a string nerd who is always experimenting with new strings and especially obscure ones. Can anyone tell me about the overall tone and character? I'm mainly looking at the standard scale. Thanks from a fan of these lovely basses.

QQ to Mayones Comodus/Patriot/Viking owners: how would you describe of these as compared to anything else? I see the specs on the first and 12th fret dimensions, and it looks like, for example, the fretboard is a hair wider than that of a Spector Euro 4 LT, but a little thinner in depth. Just curious to those that have these, how they compare with other necks that they have played?

I have a Patriot 5 with a Wenge/Padouk neck and it is narrow at the nut. It’s thin front to back all the way up the neck with 18 mm string spacing.

I also own/have owned several Warwick’s (Corvette, Streamer, Thumb) and the bolt on necks are chunkier than the Mayones however my custom shop Thumb 5 BO has a thin neck that very similar to the Patriot.

I’ve never owned any Spectors, but I’ve played quite a few Euro 5s and the necks are too chunky for me. The back of the Patriot is also curved like a Spector or Streamer, that coupled with the thin super pliable neck makes the Patriot really comfortable bass to play. I hope this helps.

Yeah, that's kinda where I was going. For 5's I have a Thumb BO (standard order), which is narrow width but thick, and a Brubaker that is more like a jazz 5. Curious on the 4's cause I have a Spector LT and an old Ibby SR890 from the 90's (which is REALLY thin).

Without being able to get my hands on one, just was curious where they sit dimensionally neck-wise, against others.

Still curious on 4's but I would assume their neck feel wouldn't vary wildly between their 4 and 5 other than the necessary additional width due to the added string...

I’ve never played a four, so I can’t comment on those. I played several at South Shore music up near Boston (5+yrs ago) but I don’t recall seeing any fours. I would say dimensionally it’s fairly similar to my Ibanez for thickness/thinness comparing my five string patriot to my six string SR1406TE Ibanez with neck through Wenge/Jatoba very similar neck builds… maybe not a good comparison since one’s a five and the other is a six, so it is going to be a little bit wider, but front to back they feel similar, which is thin.

I can tell you, I was pleasantly surprised how slim the neck was when I first received it. I’ve included a picture of it side-by-side with my Thumb bolt on five which has the slimmer neck. I’ve also included a bunch of pictures to just give you some comparisons for reference, but not sure if it helps.

Do you mean how to order from them? Or how long it takes to get your bass?

If it's the former, you can directly contact Mayones (via their website) and they will either take your order or refer you to an authorized dealer in your neck of the woods.

If it's the latter, I hear they are quite backed up (like many builders at the moment), and you are probably looking at 18-24 months. But, again, contact them and talk to them (also by mail).

Hey folks, has anyone got any experience or much info on the Mayones Forum PI basses? They seem to be much older models on the cheaper end of the Mayones spectrum from what I've looked at. Just curious as one has popped up on the used market locally for €400 and it looks like a good deal.

I am enamored of the Jabba Hadrien Feraud 5 string models. I think I’m leaning toward the newer PJ model. But they are pricey. Compared to the non-signature Jabba models, it seems the only differences are pickups, body woods and cosmetics (body finish, binding, hardware finish).

I could buy a standard Jabba 5 and swap the pickups to Delanos and save about $800. Would that lack anything noticeable in terms of sound or playability compared to one of the HF5 models?

Those Hadrien Feraud 5s look sweet, but $800 clams is a steep premium to pay. My Jabba 5 is exactly what you described. I switched the pickup to Delano’s and it is a great player.

The three Jabba models I’m most interested in are the Hadrien Feraud JJ5 and PJ5, and the Federico Malaman P/MM 5.

The HF sigs have 18mm string spacing at the bridge, standard jabba is 19mm.
The HF sig has a 20” fingerboard radius, FM is 9.5”.
The sig models have a 3 band pre, as opposed to the standard 2 band.
The body woods are different (sassafras vs ash/spruce), I have no real idea if that matters.
To my ears on YouTube, the HF models sound richer and more 3D, the FM more bright but not as rich.

I generally prefer 20” radius and 18mm string spacing.
The P/MM combo seems interesting in concept.
FM model is cheaper.
FM has Mayones velvetrone pickups, HF have Delanos.
Gregor on BassTheWorld seemed to love the HF JJ and FM models a bit more than the HF PJ.
The HF JJ model in antique brown is the most attractive to me.

Sometime in the next few weeks I’m going to take a trip down to PitBull in San Diego and check out all three models, plus any other Jabbas they have.

It sounds amazing! It has Aguilar OBP3 and DCBs, amazingly sounds a LOT like my headless I have that setup in multiple basses (including this one) and really love the flexibility of the preamp, a little adjustment makes a big difference.

Hmm that’s interesting, not sure I’ve ever aligned pickups and electronics to a particular genre per se’. I play everything from rock, pop to blues, jazz, etc. and can tweak the Aguilar pickups and pre to get the tone I need, also has a passive tone control. There’s some good sound demos of the Patriot 5 on YT.
