Meatbox reissue, huh?

OK I think I'm understanding more now, I was expecting sparks and fire. :)
I'm guessing my amp is not capable developing intelligible notes so low down so it seems light in the britches on some settings. My amp is a GK MB 500 Fusion and my cabs a vintage GK Thiel Cabs with brand new Eminence Beta 12's in them.
I worked with that thing for a year, now I'm waiting for the resale price to go up. as high as $300 huh? That's why I sold my beat up Quisnon flugal when they got trendy. Prefer the new Getzen anyway.

OK so after messing with this thing some more I think its working fine. The pedal pretty much has to be cranked to be unity gain which oddly enough does not appear to be adding any noise whatsoever which is making me think the taper is way off in this design on that pot? So its an odd sounding pedal for sure gonna take some stewing on this one but I got some cool tones out of it. Looking for more subtle which I can get. Settings are out there though, I'm one of those dim whits that want every knob set in the middle.
Yeah it's hard to get unity gain of the clean signal without significantly reducing the sub signal with the blend control. There is not enough clean signal there, a bad design in my opinion, which is why I increased R4 to 68k to get some more clean on tap..worked great.

Like any octave or sub pedal the reproduction capability really depends on your amp, technique, note played, and pedal. How low are you playing? The Meatbox excels above the 12th fret as you'd expect but I also use it down to the E on the A string and sometimes even lower.

Also, how loud are you playing? It's a weird pedal, it can seem like it is hard to get unity at bedroom settings but crank it up to gig levels and it can be hard to set it up so it isn't too loud. The problem I had was making sure it doesn't sound like there is no bass when I turn it off.

I asked Tom from DigiTech about a re-re-issue and he said they can no longer source the original chips so it isn't happening. He said they could use alternate chips and make it sound the same but he doesn't want to deal with people doing comparisons and deciding the old ones are better. So the absurd $300 resale price isn't dropping anytime soon. Unfortunate because I'd love for more people to be able to experience the pedal, it rules.

I play loud in my rehearsal studio.

I'd love to have Tom make a "Meatbox Deluxe" or something to differentiate with the OG Meatbox's - give it a cool name like the "Steakcrate" and allow players to blend back in mid/highs/etc.

Steakcrate? Maybe they could do a promo with Omaha Steaks and get them to foot most of the bill for development costs.

:D

Please do.

Here it is. Just removed the surface-mount resistor and tack-soldered the leaded resistor onto the pads.

Ugh surface mount components means I cant do the work. Will have to see if I can get someone to do it for me. Unfortunately in my old age my eyesight has suffered quite a bit and there's no way I can work on that pedal.

Well I can only point out that removing a surface mount part is 10x easier than installing one. I think I didn't even use braid or solder-sucker to remove; just heated excessively while nudging the part off the board. But yeah that crap is way too small and I hate dealing with it in general.

Just to update my progress on the MeatBox or my quest to drop my oddly tuned bass from BEAD to EADG while retaining some of that super low girth I made it and all is well.

So I swapped the bass tuning back to normal and installed the Meatbox along with a Diamond BCP-1 on my pedal board. Im really happy with the results and I was apprehensive at first.

With the Meatbox set at Octave on around 9:00, the level dimed, the 30hz on around 1:00 the 60 hz around 11:00 using the Diamond too to help thicken things up the sound is glorious. No longer do my high notes drop out of the subs and die out like they were. I took a very low end heavy tone and took it to a higher meaty tone of that makes any sense?
