Just picked up one of these pedals in cash generator for £72. Do they really sell for £150+?

I only have a 20 watt practise amp in the house which has no chance. So I'm really chomping at the bit to use it at band practise next week.

Yeah, I figured as much so I didn't even try it.

Very briefly tried it through amplitube on my pc (a few seconds at most), but my headphones were flipping out so I just left it alone.

Ive been toying with the solution to that, Putting the guts of a meatbox into a rear route bass. Who needs a preamp when you can have an onbaord Meatbox?

I bought one of the reissues when they came out and returned it because I didn't like it as much as I had thought. Stupid me didn't think about they were a limited release. The prices are already are insane again.

Had another FOH guy this past weekend basically get mad at me for NOT using the meatbox on a particular section of a song. He was all for that room shaking bass.

For anyone that’s interested in getting a meatbox but doesn’t want to pay the high price, check out the Mantic Hulk. Same chip, but IMO better implementation. I have a video comparing them directly, the hulk is just smoother and more pleasing. But it’s just as subby.

I bought a density hulk recently and bi-amped with it for the first time today. Blew my friggin socks off

I've got Somn's old Density Hulk, but I've missed out on the cheap run of the Meatbox re-ish or any used deals — so I've yet to compare the two in person, but...

From Adamaarts' video demo, I gotta say I preferred the Meatbox.


I know a guy here who has the Dawd, I might bring over the Hulk so we can do a Bottom-to-Bottom shoot out...

I love the Meatbox but I'm trying to make it work a certain way and I'm wondering if it is possible. I'm hoping someone can help!

I'm trying to run the Meatbox's dry signal to the next pedal and wet signal to the end of my signal chain. I just tried doing this with a couple Hosa YPP-117 stereo breakout cables, the tip to the end of my chain and the ring to the next pedal. Here's a diagram below:

Bloop > Meatbox > Ring (Hosa #1) > Next Pedal ... Last Pedal > Ring (Hosa #2) > Bloop
--------------------- Tip (Hosa #1) > Patch Cable > Tip (Hosa #2) > Bloop

I get no noise when I set it up this way. If I switch the rings and the tips I get the Meatbox wet signal going into the next pedals as if I plugged straight into them.

What am I doing wrong? Is what I'm doing possible?

It’s about time to relaunch this discussion.

I just got my Meatbox today, brand new from Thomann. I guess this is the re-reissue then, as it’s been available there since 03/2023. It should also be a redesign, since the original chips have been long gone. Or that’s the impression I’ve had, but haven’t found any further info about it.

Tested it right away at home and I’m happy to report it works exactly as it should. I ran it straight to a Boss GT-1000Core and got no sound. Absolutely nothing. Which is great. I run the Boss into a home stereo set with a tiny subwoofer and only with every dial on the Meatbox cranked, I heard a distant low hum that followed the bass pitch. At the same time, the Boss input level meter kept peaking. I’m so happy it isn’t just another farty octaver (nothing wrong with those!) but a proper sub effect with lots of output. Very nice.

Some pedal board rewiring during weekend. Band rehearsals next week. Can’t wait!
