Mega Millions jackpot is $540 million tonight

640,000,000 now. They sold that much! My store has already sold $3,000 in tickets since 6 am today, and there's still about 9 hours of sales left. We normally sell just under $1,000.

'they' say that winning the lottery often destroys people. i would be really careful to try and keep my kids' lives sane. i would want them to finish public school here in town so i wouldn't be moving for some years. but...

i would certainly hire the trusted financial person, and lawyer, and a personal assistant to handle the barrage of solicitations i would start to receive.

then, i would throw a month long (heck, if it goes well, i would extend it) party in hawaii. i would hire a travel agent whose job would be to set up everyone i know with tickets so they could come out and join me as it fits their schedule.

i would pay off and (finally fix up) my house and my sister's house. make sure my mom and sis are covered. buy a sweet piece of land on the mendocino coast. maybe one in the adirondaks too.

i would 'cash mob' local businesses here in my town. show up, drop an unlimited credit card on them, and tell them that all purchases that day are on me. i would do this pretty regularly at my local pub for sure. and restaurants throughout the country (wouldn't that be fun? show up at some cool eatery, have dinner, and then pick up the tab for everyone that happened to be eating there at the same time?!)

i would travel and try my hardest to spend as much money as possible on local businesses.

honestly, i doubt i could use up more than half a mill a year on my life. i got less than 50 years left. i could never spend it all. i would end up giving lots of it away. i don't really want material goods. one 1964 j-bass is all i really desire. ... ok, maybe a few nice gtrs. i would finance a few local recording studios and cool musical projects that are going on around here. probly start some 'foundation' for musicians and do-gooders. hire a bunch of folks to help me spread it around.

oh, and there would definitely be regular 'lost-weekends' in vegas with fancy clothes, gambling, debauchery, and two/three hot babes. definitely.

Set a lot away for college/masters whatever. Buy a 1960 stacked knob jazz bass, a fender bass vi, a jazzmaster, some Gretsch round badge drums, recording equipment, etc. Buy a modest house. Put a lot in savings. Buy a (used) better car. Give my parents enough to retire. Then give a lot to different people I know.

True. Id put most if it in some kind of trust fund, to be transfered to my loved ones upon my death.
Then, Id go out and party real hard until Im overcome by an accidental overdose.

I'd give a substantial amout to my church. I'd pay off all my debt, my kids' debt and my parent's debt. I'd probably take the lump sum as opposed to the annuity because you can't leave the annuity to a beneficiary.. From what I understandf those are the lottery rules.. I'd set up college funds for all the grandkids.. and a trust fund for each one which would vary depending on whether or not they finished school and how well they did.. with a mandatory stipulation that they take a course on financial managementr.. and pass it. Otherwise they would get less.. a lot less. Of course I'd get a house with all the amenities.. I'd also set up a scholarshiop fund for the school at my church that would awards multiple tiers of scholarships based on academic achievement. I'd give some to other charities. Set up my own personal good samaritan fund which would send anonymous donations to folks in need.. and maybe even go back to school and become a professional student mjust learning whatever intrests me ..

I'd take 5-7 million for myself and invest it wisely. There is no reason an American can't live comfortably off 5 million for the rest of their lives with wise investments. You could have a nice home, a car or two, take a couple vacations a year, and retire.

The rest? I'd give to help poor kids. Send some to college or trade school, fund inner-city sports programs or school lunch programs. I guess I'm a socialist when it comes to some things as I think we all need a helping hand or direction sometime. I'd also invest in causes or policies that further my beliefs.

#1 - find a good lawyer and financial guy. I'd tell the financial guy to show me a plan to invest the money, and if it made sense I'd tell him that as long as my money makes money, he has a job. When it doesn't, he's fired and then I'd find the next best one.

I don't have anywhere near $540 million, but the missus & I took our meager savings and did exactly that just recently. I don't know that we're set for life, but I'm a whole lot more comfortable with my future knowing there's a guy whose present demands he keep me solvent.

Tonight's Mega Lotto is up to $540 million!! Everybody's given it thought at one time or another..What would you do if you won?

If I won,I'd take the lump-sum payment of 300 and some-odd million. I'd give every member in my family and a few friends $1 mill. I'd buy the house the wife's been casing. Then I'd log on to TB Classifieds and buy every bass,and probably everything listed in Accessories..

That would total about 25 mil...I have no idea how the remaining 300+/- million would be used. It's a nearly inconceivable amount..

CA lottery is at $640M. Cashes out at 462M. There are six of us going in on it; that makes 77 each.

I'll keep 20 & give/spend the rest away on others: Friends & close family all get a new house, new car, & whatever cash they need. Sucky-relatives can have a loan (that I wouldn't expect them to repay).
I like Charity Water & Mercy Ships. They're cool. Make A Wish Foundation is cool too. I'd start scholarship funds or open a school, if all of those are possible with 57 million. I probably don't even have to keep 20 for myself.

Of that 20 I keep: a house in Rincon Point, penthouse condo by The Staples Center, travel the world, nice small motor yacht, G55 AMG. I think I still have 10 million left so, back to those friends & scholarships.
