Mesa 200 Buster club

While I'm sure the Buster will sound super through an Ampeg 8x10, I find that it really shines through a modern-voiced ported cab with a horn. I know that's kind of anti-intuitive compared to what is stereotypically thought of as the best cab for a tube amp, but perhaps the more SS tonal profile of the Buster is why it shines so well with those types of cabs.

didnt realize you already owned the 410 cab...

yeah you would be running into the issue of a 2.7 ohm load that way unless you ran the internal cab in series off the external cab using the 8 ohm output but it would rob your overall wattage due to a 12 ohm load

im personally thinking about buying it but i am trying to decide what i really want.
if someone else steals it out from under me id rather it be a TB member

its a little unconventional but if you wanted to use
two external 4 ohm 2x10 cabs
you could daisy chain those 2 external cabs out of one of the 4 ohm outputs on the amp
then just move the internal connection from the 8 ohm output over to the other 4 ohm output
you would be using technically 3 cabs but its just 2 loads....

hope this makes sense to anyone else let me know if it helps

Finally got my rig back from the tech, and everything seems to be working now. Next up is rehousing the amp so I have a head and an odd 2x10 cab. After that, I'd like to see how adding a matching 1x15 cab goes. At that point, I should have a pretty versatile set of options for the Buster: 2x10 or 1x15 or 2 1x15s or 2x10 + 1x15.

Any of you guys use the FX loop? Haven't tried it yet... But I did put the EHX Signal Pad in the loop and with that turned down, you can crank the pre and the power tubes.
Also, Any of you use a clean boost going in the input? I'm thinking of trying the Fulltone Fat Boost 3 with the signal lad in the FX loop.

I've not had reason to use the FX loop, but the signal pad sounds interesting. The gain and master are so touchy that going from 7:30 to 8:00 on the master quadruples the volume. My M3 does this too.

A clean boost, or preamp pedal, will drive the pre easier; just be careful with the master.

Seeing as I've loved, gigged and recorded with my Buster since about 2002, I think it's time to join the club. How do I go about doing this?

I contacted Mesa about a replacement tube guard and asked for some more info on the Buster. Between Dec. 1997 and Feb. 2000 they made 970; mines in the middle somewhere. Fyi...

So, I threw my Buster rig into the classifieds last night... with the caveat that I was likely to come to my senses and pull the ad.

Replacement amp I'm thinking about buying is a mesa prodigy and 2 1x12s of some sort.

Anyone want to talk me out of selling it?

Is it possible to A/B your amp with a prodigy and try some other cabs?

I've played the Prodigy at Mesa Boogie, but haven't A/B'd them. Maybe it's time to do a SF Bay Area TB GTG and get these two amps together.

Found a Hartke 410 XL to use as a "stand" for my wedge. I hope to 'stress test' it tomorrow afternoon.

Holy smokes - it's a beast! With half the power going to the angled 10's it's easy for me to hear myself, and the four 10's add more delicious tone without being overbearing. The additional drivers add plenty of lows and I get more than enough highs from them too. It can get insanely loud when turned up but I haven't gotten in to power amp saturation yet. It is a clean machine.

I'm about to receive a Buster 210 combo that I will convert to a head only, would someone who owns a Buster in a head cabinet be willing to post the head cab dimensions?
