Mesa 200 Buster club

Not much Buster action lately, but I dusted mine off and played through it a bit last night and discovered a couple minor issues.

The first was a slight buzz in one of the drivers in a certain part of the cone near the surround, as if a wire was loose inside and vibrating against it at low volume. After removing the driver I didn't find anything causing the noise, but that part of the cone still had a buzz even when tapped with my finger. Not worth a re-cone until it fails so I'm leaving it as-is for now.

The other thing I found was the metal bracket that mounts the handle guides to the cabinet was missing two screws, and the other screws that remained were loose. That is fixed and now the handle is actually useful instead of feeling flimsy as before.

Anyway, keep calm and rock on...

Mine just got retubed earlier in the year, then I got a Demeter VTBP 800 and I decided to sell all my other heads and preamp pedals. I'm still sitting on my Buster. It hasn't been played much but it feels good to see it.

Wondering how Buster-like the new Mesa Subway 800D will get. It seems like the clips hint that it can get near it in some areas.

You know what, I was playing my buster 15 last night at home, and then I plugged in my Eden WT-550 with an Aguilar DB924 (a 2 band preamp in a pedal) and by comparison the Buster sounded scooped, which was something I never thought of before while playing the buster.

I must have been tripping that night, because I just played them both again back to back and did not hear a scoop in tone. Wish the buster combo got louder than it does, anyone else have that issue?

I am using the cab that comes with the Buster Combo, it has a 400Watt EVM15L in it I think. I hear you about adding speakers, I thought about adding the a faital speaker thinking it would have a higher SPL, but then I wonder if the box is limiting the volume, or maybe its lows I am missing, I have read that these speakers don't have a lot of lows, I really like the mids and treble on it though. I once saw the 15 cab that mated with the Buster Combo, but the guy wanted 400 bucks and I didn't have it.

I finally rehoused my Buster into a new head. I used oak and a simple stain since it was available, affordable and durable. While the result isn't perfect, I'm happy with it. I'm hanging on to the combo portion for now, in case I change my mind or want to use it as a speaker cab.

That seems like a lot for a 115 to me, match or not. What are your tone/volume needs? I put my 210 wedge on top of a 115 Harte cab and it was just barely loud enough at my last practice. Next time I'll use a 410 XL cab - that turns it into a little monster.

Does anyone have advice on how best to use the 2x10 cabinet now that the amp is removed? It's a lot lighter, but still pretty bulky and has some heft remaining. I've been thinking of cutting it down a bit, but wonder if that will make it even harder to stack. It sounds good though, so I kinda want to keep it instead of selling the speakers off.

Also, it was again apparent what a great idea the Buster wedge was on paper. Great amp, great cab, but heavy and about as awkward as bass gear gets for this amount of power.

Awesome rehouse... build a diesel style cab for them with same wood.

Here's my Buster/Diesel rig at the Hop Monk this past weekend.

Still rocking it.

I found a perfect little nook for mine that keeps it out of the way so I don't get complaints from the wife. And, it supports whatever she deems fit to put on it, in this case a bag of unmatched socks:

It is a great amp on paper. And when it's in my trunk b/c it fits, and when on top of a 410. Most other times it's a pain (to move, lol) and needs a little too much EQ to sound good on its own. I do like it as a bedroom practice amp though.

Keep the wedge cab as-is and find a nice cab to prop up the amp section and enjoy.

Sorry to hear that Matt but I wish you all the best. Check out a MAS112 from Mike Arnopol and get a lightweight head - you should be set.

BTW, I'm sure my 210 wedge is lighter than your whole rig and thought about making a trade offer but I don't think that was what you had in mind. :D:D:D
